I'm Nigel myself and I have always hated my name. The only saving grace was that it was marginally more street than Rupert... then along came the Palace connection.

Would you swap it for Rodney and the decades of "you plonker" comments I have had or "Rodney Marsh, wasn't he a footballer or Cricketer?" Believe me, Nigel sounds pretty decent.

It's the start of the slippery slope, I tell ye.

Same with Gary (assume because of Gary Glitter) dying out.

Where are the Cuthbert's, Horace's, Humphrey's, Arnold's and Maud's these days?

Names are like fashion. It will become popular again in a few decades time.
Girls names like Elsie were considered very old fashioned when I was young, now I know of several under 5s called Elsie.

Elsie has gone from only 27 babies registered in 1996 to 1574 last year.

Living with their Dad, Jacob Rees Mogg?

This is the source for those graphs for those wanting to search for Pascal (4), Glenn (7), Tomer (0), Lewis (884), Davy (5), and Chris (41).
http://names.darkgreener.com/

the source is Official for National Statistics Data and its based on birth registrations. They compile it once a year.

Unrelated I know

I re-carpeted his flat in London years ago that he had rented out, apparently it took him ages to get the tenants out, and when they left they had smeared the words East End Scum all over his walls with poo poo....

Wonder if it was the Palace kit van driver?

Aren't we supposed to use a pseudonym on NSC?

Harry has always been the shortened version of Henry or Harold. My grandfather was a Harry.

I appreciate that. But I am guessing that most of the latterday Harrys are Henrys rather than Harolds.
