Yes, and politicians have been subjected to egg throwing throughout history (Cameron) (Prescott) (Corbyn) and green custard (Mandleson) purple powder ( Blair) …

There are plenty of things to be morally outraged at in British politics but dairy products being thrown at politicians while technically an assault and not pleasant for the victim, isn’t one of them.
It's funny (because it was a harmless substance), but disturbing in equal measure when you realise how nutters can so easily get access to politicians and anyone really.

Christ. @Colonel Mustard raised a valid point around politicians not being assaulted and is now getting dog's abuse? Did I miss a chapter?
I'm not surprised. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Yes, as far as nutters are concerned we are all vulnerable I guess but especially anyone that attracts attention because they are in the public limelight - footballers, musicians/pop stars, actors etc. Fortunately genuine nutters are far and few between.

However, I’m not going to feel all outraged by eggs and custard attacks by people who disagree with a political opinion nor do I think it particularly funny … I expect Farage will manage to milk it to his advantage - 😉

Anyway, as per usual some NSCers want this to become a polarised argument- who was for it who was against it - but I’m not going to play 🙂

I’ve no idea what you’re talking about or why you would have any awareness of what I thought about these events — had I known they were happening.

If it isn’t clear, let me spell it out. All acts of political violence, whether it involves a ‘little milkshake’ or something more lethal, are the acts of fascists and total losers, and if you can’t see where this leads, you’re an idiot. I’ve said enough on this.
yes, you have said enough. Interestingly you are calling the milkshake thrower a fascist…. Throwing a milkshake at a fascist …. You couldn’t make it up.

There is precedence for what happened today. There is a long history of this sort of thing happening especially, with politicians that polarise opinion.

Here we are 2 days before D-Day and we see a right wing politician getting a drenching. In 1934 Oswald Mosley and a few close supporters and a group of Blackshirts were effectively chased out of Worthing by a mob objecting to their presence in the town at a rally of British fascists...It may be that Mr Farage's
"nudge nudge " racism has pushed someone over the edge today but, could it be that like Worthingites in 1934, they may be on the right side of history ?

Of course assaulting any elected representative of a British democratic political party is reprehensible.

But it is rather fortuitous for Nige as he would have been nowhere near the news headlines and front pages tomorrow without it ???

I agree there was universal condemnation, absolutely. My point here is the level of outrage was simply not there, and whilst lots of commentators on all sides had something to say on that when it happened, they did not rush to do so in the way we are seeing here.
I’m not sure perception can be interpreted as fact.

In British democracy, we celebrate or express outrage over a milkshake being thrown at a highly divisive politician. Some of us express outrage at the celebrations of others. Some of us laugh back at the outrage. Afterwards, the politician makes capital out of it, holding up a milkshake triumphantly. These are all manifestations of our democracy. Take care of it. It is precious.

Now consider a country which has never enjoyed democracy.

If the milkshake had been thrown at President Putin, the culprit would have been arrested, jailed until a show trial, and sentenced to a very long spell in a prison a very long way from her home, so distant that it would have been extremely difficult for her family and lawyers to visit her. It is highly likely that in time, she would have been poisoned, committed suicide or 'disappeared'.

Actually some of us really couldn’t care a less - he wasn’t injured - it wasn’t funny, it was silly - it was milk.

Let’s not give Politicians with links to some of the West’s most racist and prejudiced, far right extremist populists any more attention than they deserve:

I suggest if people feel Farage is a harmless sop then read this ffs:

Farage speaking in the USA at CPAC

“Dubbed a gathering of the “best and brightest leaders in the world”, the former UKIP and Brexit Party leader joined Donald Trump, Viktor Orbán, Republican politicians such as Ted Cruz and Matt Gaetz, Fox news alumni Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck, and unashamed far-right activists Steve Bannon and Jack Posobiec.

Other speakers represented think-tanks and campaigning groups which have promoted conspiracies around voter fraud, as well as those which are anti-abortion, anti-LGBTIQ and pro-fossil fuels. They include the Heritage Foundation, Moms for America, and Concerned Women of America, “

The Avenue then Maloncho
A Brighton fan wearing the colours gets covered in a milkshake (not acid or a brick) while en route to the match = not funny.

Some Palace gimp in a black Stone Island jacket singing about Lewis Dunk (also en route to the match) gets covered in a milkshake (not acid or a brick). = fuckin hilarious.

Yes, I get that perhaps the analogy is not a fair comparison, politicians going about their job etc, however I do resent being told by others how to feel. I think it’s funny as f***, if you don’t that’s your business and nothing to do with me.

Milkshake thrower deserves prison time for assault.

If this happened to Mayor Khan they would get years.

People joke now but two MPs have been killed in recent years. If this happened to a female Labour MP there would be outrage.

No excuse for violence. Beat people with debate and rational argument.
