Had a decent shout on the Jeremy Vine show today,but can anyone confirm was this a council house ? If so can you make alterations ?

very good friend of the family! Was telling us about this a few weeks ago! It is a council house, and she obtained permission for the alterations! Council now charging her to clean it up and put it back to how it was! Good on him I say, first time in 15-20 years that he has never received full amount for his works!
good for him. might make others think twice before trying to rip someone off like this.
i have a friend who is a plasterer and the amount of people who think they can get away with not paying is unreal and you have to jump through balls of fire to get them to pay anything and then it's £5 a week for 40 years or something crazy.

From what I can gather she was giving him excuses about her husband being dead and being unable to pay on a number of occasions when he was actually sitting inside watching the TV. Apparently they both doing that when he knocked the porch down.

The trouble is, he says he still loses the money anyway, and the months of hardship he's been through because of this have practically put him out of business.
I only hope that many people will see this story and go out of their way to hire him. That way, the publicity will have put him back on track. Plus, someone might offer to have him build their conservatory out of the parts he salvaged, so he won't lose on some of the materials.

They have all these programs on the TV like Rogue Traders and Builders from Hell (and there are some cowboys about) but how about Customers from Hell.
I have never been bumped yet but the amount of time people take in paying up is terrible. If I have not had a stage payment off a job I expect to be paid within 2 weeks of invoice but that rarely happens.
I had one customer pay me 500 a month for 8 months once because they did not have the money.............. why would they ask a builder to start knowing that ?
