shite move if you ask me - he will probably be playing in the championship next year in a half empty stadium....

Only £2.2mill according to SSN - well below figures banded about on here although I know he is out of contract at the end of the season.

I think that's the reason tbh. Didn't they turn down £5 million from Leicester of am I making that up?

Agree with this. Unless the player is really thick Wigan would have to offer him a lot of Wonga he'd is likely to get better offers, at 2.2 mil he's bargain I reckon. With all due respect to Wigan they are the smallest club in the Premiership and despite being perennial stragglers have done brilliantly to survive. However dropping down is long overdue for them and once they are down their already modest gates will drop. A lot of Bolton fans live in Wigan not to mention those of the big four. Maynard's stay in the Prem is likely to short and I would have thought West Ham would be a better fit for him.

Wigan will go down and then there average home gate will be about 6k

It won't be that bad but it will be a lot less than many other Championship teams, more so if The two Sheffield clubs and Charlton go up. Even Palace will be able to look down on them.

Surprised by this move, firstly, one what Ive seen of him (2 live games + a couple of tv highlights) he hasnt appeared all that and secondly, why go from the championship to the premiership only to come back down again?

Wonder if its about the money???

It's about a thousand less than ours. If we had the capacity of the DW it would be even more.

But Wigan's crowds rely on having a decent opposition to play and of course bring numbers themselves. Once they drop down a league or two their support will drop rapidly.

Bad, we've played them twice and got our 6 points. Better if he stayed and whacked hatfulls against all the teams that can prevent us making the play-offs!

It's the Bosman issue, he can leave for nothing at the end of the season so City are trying to make something while they can.
