If Bertie signs we will have had an excellent summer with all 3 key positions filled by Championship quality players which should add massively to our play next season.

The combination of experience together with our maturing youth players and the return to full fitness of Reid and Hinch etc. really shows signs of optimism. If Deano can get the players to gell and show real signs of consistancy then it could be a good season.

However a couple of bad early results and the masses will be calling for the manager's head and a decent striker (again!!).

I wonder how patient we will all be - come on you Seagulls :ascarf::drink::falmer:

Signing wasn't completed until this afternoon. Hull jumped the gun by putting the story out (cheers!).

In answer to the other question: Ask The Club will be back in about a month's time for the new season - but with new rules on NOT asking stupid questions.

He can start a book club with Charlie - just in case you bump into him in a bar, here's a bit of useful background on his reading habits from t'internet:

What memories do you have of reading or being read to as a child?
I remember being read to in bed at night before going to sleep, my favourite being 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl.

Can you name a book(s) that particularly inspired you to keep reading as a child? Are there any books that you would recommend?
I think the first books that I read and really enjoyed were the James Herriot books. I found that books could be amusing and educational.

What do you get out of helping children with their reading?
I help my step-daughter now to read and hearing her form words for herself are very rewarding.

How did you get invovled with helping children with their reading?
Step-daughter (6 yrs).

How do you encourage boys and young men in particular to read?
To read books that interest them.

What rewarding moments stick in your mind?
Finishing my first book on my own.

What books do you enjoy reading for yourself? Are there any particular titles that you would recommend?
Autobiographies, stories that highlight success that comes out of adversity.

What else do you enjoy reading? Websites, magazines or newspapers?
Newspapers.

Any other comments about why you enjoy reading and think it is important?
Not only is reading educational it can be both rewarding and fun.
