Nice enough if you like carvery's but I've not heard anything good about the one at the Downlands. When I went to the George there was no gravy on offer! NO GRAVY!
.
I have been to the Downlands and as you say it is a run of the mill Carvery but excellant VFM, cheap and reasonable quality and at least you know what you will be getting with a choice of 3 meats.
I have never in my life been to a carvery either Toby, Ember Inns or Beefeater where there has been no gravy available it is usually placed on an adjoining or opposite table with the horse radish, apple sauce etc.
I am sure that you would have asked if there was any gravy available because it is not like you to just sit down and say nothin g.
Black Horse at Binsted (near Arundel) has always been good for a Sunday lunch. Roast dinners are nice as are their other dishes.
The Clifton Arms in Clifton road is a delightful little pub that does a smashing lunchtime fayre.

The Sussex Potter, in North Lancing. An old classmate of mine, Leigh Menzies, runs it. Mention me and she will give you a discount...possibly.
THe Fox , just along from the Worlds End.
Top drawer food - no carvery junk or cremated potatoes here
The Fox Is By The Far The Best Of All The Suggestions So Far
My suggestion would be the Wheatsheaf - run by a guy I know and the chef is ex of Red in Worthing - very good food and the sunday roast is outstanding.
