Niagara on the Lake is definitely worth staying in - it's a gorgeous little town. Main Niagara is not worth staying in if you can avoid it, although if they still light up the falls, that's worth seeing. But the falls themselves. Well - when I went I expected it to be over-hyped and disappointing. It is hugely hyped - but I don't think you can actually over-hype something quite so impressive. I was stunned by the whole thing, including the Maid on the Mist which was something else altogether. The trip behind the falls in also highly impressive. And make sure you go to the top - when we went I found it staggering that you could (if you wanted) just step over a low fence and right over the falls! Over here, you'd not be allowed anywhere near.

I don't know if the USA is on your agenda but Buffalo is pretty close, much closer than Toronto.

I'm not suggesting it's a great place, but it has a down home, rust belt, sports bar charm that watching an Albion game in would actually be pretty good fun I'd imagine.

And if you like architecture, it's the Frank Lloyd Wright place for you...

That's actually quite accurate as @dazzer6666 says. The area down by the falls is nice but the town of Niagara Falls is full of tacky amusement arcades and a giant casino.

@Charles 'Charley' Charles I'd recommend visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake too. It's a nice little town just up from Niagara Falls. Also, if you're driving from Muskoka to Niagara, you'll probably be passing right by Toronto. I woulld suggest stopping on the way rather than a round trip from the Falls because it's not a great journey and you're guaranteed to be sitting in traffic. Toronto and the surrounding highways are basically just a giant traffic jam.

Good shout - Niagara on the Lake is really nice……..bit ‘touristy’ of course but very pretty and with several nice cafes etc.

Yep. I've been twice and my defining memory is of loads of people in ponchos getting drenched by the water. It's an impressive sight seemingly now built on commercialisation...

Yea Niagara is pretty tacky. Living an hour away, if I were to ever move away and visit, I’d vote for staying in Toronto then just visiting for the day.

Niagara also has its own “Niagara tax”, if going anywhere downtown. Shameful.

Had a bit of luck, my eldest daughter who isn’t joining us was desperate to watch the “fight” last night so she ended up subscribing to DAZN. Which it turns out the subscription is global, although you can only access the region you in, which in Canada means the Europa League.

Been to Niagara, and honestly, and I'm not joking, you have two relatively clear options - one of which is hooters, the other is walk around and find a "restaurant" that also shows sports. Honestly there are SO many that have sports on screens (even in the outdoor bits of the "restaurant") because effectively if you're not showing the hockey, you're not getting customers two nights a week, but they won't even be classed as bars on google search.

Although from a quick Google myself, you might struggle as Europa is on DAZN over there (I think?) - I'm basing my comments above on visiting 6 years ago

Restaurant in quote marks because you probably don't need to order food, although it will be lunch time.

Also don't bother seeing Niagara from the Buffalo side, the ontario side is much better

Agree. Massive rip off. Everywhere. Day trip from TO though not so sure, enjoy the traffic down Gardiner and QEW! Personally worth staying the night due to the traffic

Most Americans agree and go to the Canadian side to see the Falls.

Niagra Falls itself is amazing... I went 20 years ago and was blown away by it. But obviously the North Americans have hugely commercialised it and made the area shit - the Yanks worse than the Canadians, but they've both done it. Shame really

Niagar on the Lake is definitely worth a visit as well as St Catherine’s Lock.
