Yesterday we were beaten by a team which was a mixture of talented players (e.g. Lambert) and thugs (e.g. Chaplow). We were not helped by a very weak, incompetent referee and totally inept assistants who seemed unable to make a decision on their own. (Surely a game with the potential of yesterday's needed a top referee at least?)

However, my big concern is that there will be many more teams like that in the Championship - mid-table teams who are going nowhere. I know Gus is looking for for new players - should it be a combination of hard-men as well as the skilful? What do you think?

I think Gus will only bring in players with good technical ability. That's what he believes in and is the way he wants us to play. There are players out there who are good technically but are also physically strong.

Agreed but don't think we can afford both of them

If the opponents do not play the ball out of defence we need a hard running and tall central midfielder (for the lofted balls) in midfield, especially if we play 4-3-3 and I think we may have to play 4-4-2 for some games. I would like to see a central defender in the Lawrenson style and ability. And a good left winger like Lua Lua.

What we need in the Championship is ball winners and alot of pace going forward. If you look at teams like Reading and Qpr. They've got experienced players such as Griffin and Derry, they've been there and done it at that level and this is what we will need.

Saints were fitter and stronger than us, as Stoke were a few weeks ago.

We've done very well against most of the dross in League 1 but our form against the top 6 hasn't been too impressive.

We need big, strong and powerful players.....the likes of El Abd, Elphick, Sparrow and Noone will struggle because they just aren't big enough compared to the players they will come up against next season. Bridcutt is the exception because he has talent and courage.

If Greer and Murray had been on the pitch we wouldn't have lost that game, plus clearly they were playing with a huge amount more purpose than us. You can't read too much into it, imo.

Agree but I don't think that's new knowledge, we've struggled a few times this season without Greer at the back and ditto Murray up front (even more so).

Saints did their homework and exposed our defence's lack of strength and the ability to deal with the ball crossed to the far post. this is not a new fault.
