So local residents receive a parking permit, plus 1 transferable permit. Plus, they can buy 25 one-day permits for £2.60. And the scheme is only operational on match days.

WTF? No wonder the residents voted for this... it's basically a money making scheme for them at the club's and taxpayers expense. Sell the transferable permit to somebody for the full season for a nice little fee... and then stand around selling the one-day permits for £8/£9 each. Job done.

What are the odds on this site being swamped with people offering 'match day parking permits' next season!

This is EXACTLY what will happen. Probably be more cars parked in these areas on matchdays, but no-one will complain because they're making a good few quid out of it.

Probably the most ridiculous and uneccesary anti-fan thing that has happened since we have moved to the Amex. Parking in those areas was a very useful option for many hundreds, even thousands of fans. There was no need for any restrictions, anyone using it regularly for the past two seasons knows that, as opposed to some transport hand-wringers who have never even been there and have an easy train or bus. Not only were the problems very minimal with parking very considerate in the vast majority of cases, but what has emerged is open to abuse and in all probability will result in the same number or more cars, just fans more out of pocket to whoever gets the money. So it isn't about 'the roads' or 'the residents' at all, but money. And please don't anyone tell me paying £13 a match is a reasonable alternative for parking free on-street. The club and council have really let fans down on this one.

Totally agree. When you go to away games nearly all the car parks for football are £5!

The money raised here will be used to run the schemes; otherwise BHA has to pay, as it has so far for the fines etc associated with the matchday parking that has been taking place in these areas since the stadium opened.

The club have had to stump up £150,000 to pay for the Coldean/Moulsecombe parking scheme, so if it has added to ST prices, it's thanks to those who refused to listen when told not to park there. In a similar way to the travel subsidy being added due to some taking the mick and riding for free.

No, £13 is way too much. First season I paid to go in the Uni, but £360 wasn't worth it. However, people who "have to drive," (and yes, there are some) could have parked further away but near a bus stop and caught the 25 so as not to wind up residents in Coldean/Moulsecombe

Totally agree. When you go to away games nearly all the car parks for football are £5!

This is Brighton not Reading or Doncaster, It would be an insult to charge such small parking fees

Winding up the residents is not the primary issue here; matchday on-street parking by fans in either area puts the club in breach of the stadium planning consent. Hence the fines, two CPZ's from next season and the associated costs, all of which have to be born by the Club.

no idea, as I haven't done a survey. i just listened to what MP and RH said, and how much it was costing the club because people are still parking there

Maybe..but that's what the post says...I do wonder how much parking is going on in those areas ..I've not noticed any increase since our capacity was lifted..I still park in the same area ..with plenty of spaces.... I not sure what I will b doing next season ..probably end up looking for someone with a visitors permit to sell ..anyway that's my problem ..I'll watch with interest

A scheme introducing residents parking in the roads in Coldean and Moulsecoomb during football match days at the American Express Community Stadium will be discussed at Transport Committee on 30 April 2013.

If this scheme is approved, resident permits and one transferable visitor permit will be available at no charge to residents upon application. Additionally, residents can buy up to 25 one day visitor permits each year at a cost of £2.60 each. In the areas, business, school and carer permits will also be introduced without charge, and disabled residents with Blue Badges are able to park without a permit.

Consultation carried out in the autumn revealed that, in Coldean, over 78% of those who responded were in favour of a match-day parking scheme, and 68% supported the proposals in Moulsecoomb.

Councillor Ian Davey, Chair of the city’s Transport Committee, said:

“Local residents have been concerned about the negative impact of match day parking on their streets, and that is why we have proposed an event day only controlled parking scheme at no cost to residents.

“In the recent consultation they were overwhelmingly in favour of implementing the plan. Should it be given the go ahead, it will operate all day when there are matches or events at the stadium. This will make life easier for those who live nearby and compliment the excellent work that the club are already doing to encourage fans to travel to the ground by sustainable means.”

The one-day permits are limited to 25 per year, not per day if you didn't notice.

Martin Perry said it is costing the club £130,000 to set the scheme up and there are running costs to absorb.
Anyone parking in Coldean or Moulescoombe without a permit/voucher will get a parking ticket.
