He turned them down for an assistant role. coming to us would actually benefit him, a premier league team or even championship team at the beginning of his career won't destroy his career if it goes wrong, but will make it if it goes right. Plus he will also have name recognition.

Didn't turn it down but Arsenal didn't want to take the risk with an unproven manager. Could make it more likely he would come to us, even as a stepping stone.
