I wonder if Russell Martin would be on our list.

Swansea seem to know how to find decent managers that play styles similar to ours.

He's also born in Brighton and played youth for the Albion.

After reading this he seems like he wouldn't be a bad fit for us.

Can I ask why not? He seems to be doing really well at Luton. Did well as interim at Brighton and has a good history with the club. Would seem like a good fit if he is deemed ready for the step up.

He made one move from Luton to a bigger club and it was an absolute disaster. The only thing we can thank Potter for is we now have a reputation that should allow us to attract a top class coach capable of consolidating in the middle to upper half of the table. Dipping down the leagues is not the way to go this time.

I am not sure Stoke had the right circumstances for anyone to succeed well at that time. I would not let that lead my opinion of his abilities.
I very much disagree with you "Dipping down the leagues is not the way to go this time" statement. We are not yet a club that can take from a team above us at all! Klopp, Pep, Zidane!?...no way. The next coach will be from below us. They will not be a proven top class coach, we simply can't afford them and they would not come here I should imagine.

Thought it was fairly obvious that I’m talking about dipping down the English divisions. Of course we won’t be looking at Zidane. But there’s no reason why the club can’t appoint a coach of Premier League stature or a high-achiever from a foreign league. As for ‘we simply can’t afford them”. GP was on £7-8m a year according to the Athletic. That’s a healthy budget.

Healthy enough not to need to move for financial security, but that’s a different subject entirely!

For me the best shortlist (from the names in the bookies list) would be Knutsen, Postecoglu, Pochettino or Cooper.
Anyone else on that list I think would drive me to despair - particularly Nathan Jones ! I’m surprised big Duncan Ferguson isn’t listed either

Interesting Naylor has led with Knutsen in his article this morning and directly mentions he is highly rated in the ‘corridors of power’ at the Amex.

He is always VERY careful what he writes and makes regularly references to his information being ‘doubled sourced’ …. He mentions Jones, Cooper etc but I still feel that’s a massive hint to where our search is starting.

TB doesn't appear to have a problem with dicking about under the table , as long as it is within FFP constraints .....!! Poch or Knuts i'm recovered from my manic state ....anyone else i'm on a rampage within the hour.

Marcelo bielsa would be a great appointment, did fantastic at Leeds, played great football.
Take him over lots of the other names being mentioned.

I think any manager is going to come with an element of risk, whether it’s no experience in English football or does the style of play fit with the squad we have.

I guess Bloom and Barber have to take the view of the risk/reward scale and make their decision based on that.

I trust them both to make the right decision, just like I trust the players to adapt to the change and continue to move forward.

How Potter and his team have left have made us all feel negative currently, but this is a great football club with amazing people in it from top to bottom. THEY helped Potter become a success by giving him what he needed to improve the team and to perform and the same people will continue to do that for the new coach.
