[Albion] Newcastle's slow ticket sales / new penalties for handing on tickets

Sounds like Newcastle are making sure tickets going to right people.
On a general note I think some of these big established clubs not finding it easy to go down to things we have put in place. Liverpool families etc have owned STs for years that they have always passed round. Outrage when Club tried to do something about this. Again outrage at West Ham when tried to go fully digital because many supporters own more then one ST and share them about. Dont know what situation is this season but last one the club backed down.

Liverpool did sort that in the end, but it took decades. There was an amnesty where the real current users got to retain the s/t’s.

But illicit s/t ticket sharing still goes on, as it does with other clubs such as us.

My mate owns two Arsenal season tickets. He sells his second via a network of connections meaning he has never heard of the person sitting next to him 80% of the time. Sitting around him are numerous people who don't know the person whose ticket they are using, because he ticket passing on networks are myriad.

Unless independent ID is request on entry, however, how can anyone know if a ticket has been passed on?

My guess is this. Newcastle supporters are a bit thick.

Happy for someone to explain how I have got this all wrong.

Indeed it does. I know someone that has been to a few games at Anfield. He arranges to meet a chap somewhere near the ground and is given an old phone with the season ticket on it. The last time he was told the battery on the phone wasn't great and to only switch it on just before going through the turnstile. He then has to meet the chap after the game to give the phone back!!!

Bizarre!! Or maybe not in Liverpool ...

My mate owns two Arsenal season tickets. He sells his second via a network of connections meaning he has never heard of the person sitting next to him 80% of the time. Sitting around him are numerous people who don't know the person whose ticket they are using, because he ticket passing on networks are myriad.

Unless independent ID is request on entry, however, how can anyone know if a ticket has been passed on?

My guess is this. Newcastle supporters are a bit thick.

Happy for someone to explain how I have got this all wrong.

Do you know if Arsenal operate the Albion-esque system of a smart phone wallet linked to a specific s/t?

I naively thought the Albion system was full proof. Until my in laws recently showed me their family’s Albion s/t’s in their own iPhone wallets. Not old phones used for the purpose. When their son and his family can’t make games, they just tell the parents they can go using their own phones.

How does that work?

By changing your phone number in your Seagulls account online, and then back again?

I was offered my mate's second seat for our game there this season so I suspect not (have not taken up the offer yet as it involve my taking an extra suitcase on my upcoming trip to to Brazil :ohmy:). Either that or it may be easy to work around it. BHA's print at home option for a small charge drives a coach and horses through any dragnet. And I have been told there are other scanning dodges.

But this is exactly what the Albion are doing for *away* games, which is why some fans have had 6-month bans from the Amex as well as loyalty point deductions.

It is actually considerably easier/less risky to share a home ticket than it is an away ticket.

They tried this at Burnley a few years ago, but abandoned it when they realised how many tickets are legitimately shared. For example, two parents who aren't particularly interested but their children are, so the parents only get one adult ticket and take turns. For example, shift workers. For example, people who can't afford a whole ticket or are missing quite a few weekends, so they share. There's a lot of it about.

Whether that will change now that it's a full house every week and the new owners have new ideas, we'll have to wait and see.

Won't be long before there's a photo linked to your ST and the stewards will just take a glance to make sure tickets is being used by the right, entitled, person.

Lot of people going to be unhappy that their lifelong privilege of abusing the system and jumping the queue will be coming to an end. The touts will lose out, thank god.

The people I know flouting the Albion system were slightly nervous going through the Amex turnstiles.

Is the only check just now on age group tickets, that is, an adult going in on a kids ticket?

And when you say this is why for away games some fans have had 6 month bans I presume you must be referring to BHA supporters, banned by BHA for passing on tickets for our away games. This would mean the *home* club would have had to have been doing the surveillance and reporting back to BHA. Did all our rivals co-operate and demand independent ID matching the name on the ticket for BHA supporters at our away game?

And if Newcastle did that for us last season how come Newcastle are only now asking clubs to do the same for them?

If I have still misunderstood I may have to shoot myself.

My mate is face value mostly, but he has engaged with bidding when he was bidden. So, yes, part time tout.

The checking of tickets for BHA fans has been going on since beginning of last season I think and I believe that's what Bozza was referring to. Other clubs now seem to be playing catch up. The only collection I've had to do was at Etihad and haven't been asked for ID at any other match other than Palace.

Haha, they like to break rules there. I remember going to the Derby once in the Goodison end, I lived there but a few friends were visiting from Sussex. A season ticket holder got us 5 tickets but unfortunately someone hadn't counted properly and there were 6 in our party. The session ticket holder persuaded the guy at the turnstile to let us all in though, he let the others in the normal way and I hopped in over the turnstile.

Yes, last season Albion brought in rules pertaining to sharing of away tickets.

Some tickets are not posted and have to be collected at the away ground, with ID matching the name the ticket was ordered in.

Further Albion fans attending the game are asked to provide ID that matches the name on the ticket.

Failing either of these checks leads to an Amex ban and loyalty points deduction. We know the club have followed through with this threat, as some have reported it on here, and some appeals have made it to the Independent Football Ombudsman, which you can see here: https://www.theifo.co.uk/adjudications/

So, this thread wasn't reporting it as a new thing, merely saying Newcastle have now implemented a very similar scheme and it seems to have flushed out that it was a sizeable problem. I posted it out of general interest, and also because it may mean the away end at the Amex is not completely full for our upcoming game.
