Newcastle Player Struck By Coin

In the Palace-Albion game of October 2005, Wayne Henderson, our keeper that day, was constantly pelted with coins and bottles at the Holmesdale Road end, as was Gary Hart when he picked the ball out of the net after Clinton Morrison’s stoppage-time goal was disallowed. Moreover, I was one of the Albion fans by the corner-flag, in the away end, at whom were thrown several coins. I complained to the stewards, but they stood around doing nothing.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2005/nov/21/match.crystalpalace

a record crowd of 7,273

Palace's manager Iain Dowie had coins thrown at him on the final whistle as his team won with virtually the last kick of the game, the substitute Jobi McAnuff's powerful strike through a crowded penalty area

Every team has morons.

Also, do you have a response regarding the differing reactions of Albion and Palace fans to "shit-gate"? Del Fenner went surprisingly quiet on this one.

I said my piece originally, and no-one appeared to be listening. I didn't see much point in repeating myself.

But as Mellotron is willing to raise the matter, I will repeat:

Del Fenner said:
I don't think that it is an established fact that the coach driver did the deed. It seems to be conjecture on the part of Paddy McCarthy.

Del Fenner said:
I think that the reason why this has been unresolved for so long is because no-one knows for sure what really happened, and those closest to the events have formed an idea of what most likely happened, and this is the story that has been doing the rounds.

I would have thought that an absence of any apologies over Poogate is because no-one is clear as to what actually happened.

We knew it was the coach driver before Paddy McCarthy's 'conjecture'. It was posted on Nsc within a week, as there was a Brighton fan working at the hotel, where the coach driver had another 'accident'.
I heard it myself from a Brighton employee within a couple of weeks.
Why should a Palace player make something like that up?

I'm not suggesting that he is. But it seems to me that we're talking about the difference between a story doing the rounds, and something that is corroborated by hard evidence (which seems to be lacking to date).

By all accounts del the evidence wasn't hard .

The coin throwing is utterly deplorable, any palace fan trying to defend that has no place at a football ground. no excuses, shameful.

Newcastle knew exactly what they were doing by celebrating there, they were edging closer to the crowd as more of them arrived, they are in no way culpable but they were being provocative and they should have realised that a small minority of fans haven't grown up enough to restrain themselves.
On a side note there is no way that coin came from the HF, I was to the left of them in block C, the coin came from my left i.e. block D , try not to throw blame at the only group of fans you can name as it kind of invalidates your post.

Well done to the Palace fans for resisting the urge to lob coins at Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and their Liverpool team mates today.

Both scored at the Holmesdale End today (as did Newcastle midweek) and, as with the Newcastle players, wheeled away in front of the Holmesdale Massive towards the away fans housed alongside the pitch.

There did seem to be general angry gesticulations from the black-clad ninjas behind the goal, but no monetary instruments seem to be have been thrown.

Perhaps they had run out of money after the throwing at the previous game.

Wasn't expecting any coins to be thrown.

Dougie has already informed us that the youth was led away at half time against Newcastle.......and we all know how much Dougie knows about anything. He has a lot to say......but not a braincell in sight.

After watching the pathetic dance after scoring,Sturridge & the other pleb celebrating should have been pelted with tomates & cabbages
Embarrassing

@TerraceLife_: Prefer a high five and brief embrace after a goal myself... https://t.co/H6mOFnzaOr

I personally thought Cambell and Gayles was hugely more embarrassing, but whatever floats your boat.

'By celebrating there' haha - if you think the 'Holsmsdale Italians' are in any way special or 'feared' you are truely wrong. If any of the neutral football twitter accounts put a pic of their latest 'stunt' up you've only got to read the comments underneath from footy fans around the country to realise how people view them!
