I'm not sure I agree on the 5 points bit.

If we assume that Liverpool beat Villa then us beating Southampton takes us out of reach of them.

Following that same assumption, if we beat Southampton, Spurs need 5 points to make us need another point, so they need two wins. They've been so ropey this season that it's not a given that they'll even beat Brentford. Even if they do, assuming Leeds still need something from the final day, I'd back them to get something from Spurs. The combination of peak Fat Sam and a raucous Elland Road could see a proper Spursy performance from them.
Whilst I agree with every word, and I've been saying for a while that I cant see Spurs winning at Leeds, I don't want to go to Villa Park sitting in 6th but only one point above Spurs & Villa. I want to go there knowing we have European football next year.

A few years ago, I wanted to go into the final games knowing we had Premier league football next year.

How far we've come.

Needing 5 points is the worst case scenario .... hopefully/probably likely that fewer will be needed though.

So if we go for the win tonight but end up with one point that is also fine. Win against Southampton and then we're in a situation where a draw against Man City at home is enough. Man City should have wrapped up the title by then and I think Pep will not risk his big stars (Haaland, de Bruyne etc) against us (apart from coming off the bench) knowing he has 2 massive games coming up after and lots of his players have played 2 games a week for some time with little rest.

So at a rocking Amex next Wednesday evening a draw against a weakened (but still very good !) Man City side and Europa League qualification is secured !! Get in there !

Hopefully not beyond the realms of possibility ! :lolol:

You're quite right. Should Villa lose at Liverpool, who have won 7 straight, then 3 points will do it. But Europa League requires 5 pts. Spurs dropping 2 at Leeds is possible but I'd rather not wait until the last day to hope. But I'm taking my Daughter Sunday and embarrasingly I know I'm going to be in peices should we qualify.
I think Spurs are gone. I can see them getting one point tops.

Anyone writing 'us beating Southampton' twice in the same post really has been paying attention, over the last 40 or so years.

Speaking before kick off, a point would be good and I'd be happy with that.

However, I'd have taken point at Arsenal. So I'd rather gamble on the possibility of getting all 3 which lets face it, would be far from the greatest shock in football

I guess I can't see Spurs picking up six points from their remaining two fixtures.

They've got three wins in their last 12, and that includes the unjust victory over us. The other two were home wins against the hapless pair of Palace and Forest. Additionally, they've not won away in the League since January 23rd.
As an aside, could you pick a better team for Leeds to play last game of the season, from their point of view I mean!

Given that a point doesn't seem to make a huge difference to the likely outcome, tonight is basically a classic RDZ free hit. He will go for the win 100% and we should back him. The benefit of 3 points vs the risk of zero is in our favour. Mitoma / Enciso vs Burn / Trippier will be interesting to watch.

No, look, I completely get that and I can assure you I'm certainly not sitting here blissfully assuming that Sunday is a guaranteed three points.

And the last week has reminded anyone that needed reminding just what Brighton & Hove Albion are capable of. A home capitulation against one of the worst, out-of-form and can't-score-for-toffee (pun intended) sides in the league, followed up by one of the best displays in the club's entire history against a side that were still aiming for the title.

Still worried that it may come down to Villa away and needing a draw and I'd rather it was all over by then. A point means a point from Man City as well, plus 3 against Saints.
So it's a NO from me. 3 or zero is the only option.
I know exactly what you're saying, but I'd rather go to Villa needing a point than go to Villa needing 3 points. If we lose to Newcastle and City, beat Southampton, and Spurs win both games, eminently possible, we'll need a win at Villa for 6th and a draw for 7th. Get that point against Newcastle or City and a point on the last day will be enough for 6th.

Likewise if we just get a draw against Southampton and Villa beat Liverpool, we'd be a point short of Europe if we draw with Villa and lose the other two.

So a point at Newcastle definitely has value.

Would I take a point? Yes.
Do I think we could take all three? Hell yeah!

There's a VERY slim chance of CL qualification still, no? The 'big target' as RDZ puts it. Go get it boys :albion2:

I can't see Pep resting against us, he won't want to lose. He'll rest players this weekend and the final one.

I would be quite happy with a point, but I am not accepting before the match at the expense of giving up the win. No reason why we should not go into this game aiming for all three.

Not fussed about what points other teams get or need.

I want us to win every game we can.

I want us to play like we want to win every game we can.

If we need a win for Europe I want to get it as soon as possible, not rely on probably getting one later or someone else losing.

If the CL is still a mathematical possibility I want us to fight tooth and nail for it until it isn't.

As long as we turn up and go for it and keep fighting until the final whistle (and that goes for us fans too), I won't be disappointed if we slip up. But I want a win.

I had previously been hoping for 3 points tonight, but given that several key players are out injured, I'd settle for a point. I can't imagine Saudi United being as soft as Arsenal were.

We can beat Newcastle with RDZ at the helm.
Southampton is a strange one, because we have a habit of winning at St Mary’s but them holding us at the Amex. Hopefully Roberto’s style of throwing on attackers right up to the end, will work, plus I’m away on Sunday, so we’re bound to do something.
Man City may already be on the beach against us, like they were in 2021.
Villa away, I would normally write off, but if Welbeck is playing, he loves scoring there.
