done but your site doesnt exactly put the case forward for a convincing argument

Bristol’s new regional stadium is under threat and the South West could miss out on World Cup football as a result. The stadium which is part of England’s bid to host the World Cup in 2018 would provide huge value to the community, benefit the region’s economy by up to £560m and will provide over 20 acres of green open space including a managed wildlife wetlands area.

Incase the news has not filtered down there yet we didnt get the 2018 World cup so not sure your economy figures will stand up

Best piece of advice City fans could take is form a political party now. Only way local politicians will focus on backing the proposals without changing their minds every 5mins with the wind. Do it. And do it now.

done. good luck with this.

as somebody with a real soft spot for brizzle rovers... just wanted to say hopefully this new stadium plan doesn't affect the gasheads in the future, should they decide to build a new ground.

Rovers do have planning permission to rebuild the Mem, they just don't currently having the funding to do it. Shame 'cos they are probably more in need than City.

From an outsider's point of view, I've always felt that Bristol is crying out for a groundshare really. It's a big city with not much spare space on which to build, and it has two massively underachieving football clubs (and one decent sized rugby club).

But, as others have said, you really do need to update your arguments as the facts change, if you want to be taken seriously by politicians, and the general public. So, having ditched the World Cup stuff you'll still need to convince the sceptics quite why "Thousands of jobs would be lost for local people. Bristol businesses would lose out on millions of £s. The majority of people in Bristol would lose out". And some quantification would not go amiss. Obviously that stuff is in your business case, but it needs beefing up in your petition.

As for optimising on methods, e-petitions are all too easy to organise - and all too easy to dismiss - because they require so little effort by anyone. In promoting our case for Falmer, we found that live, street-level activities - along with a few eye-catching PR stunts - made a huge difference, both in terms of media coverage and political interest and response.

If you can involve any more celeb fans - even higher-profile than Robinson and Trescothick - that will help a great deal. But the hardest part of all lies in convincing the neutrals that your stadium is actually necessary. Difficult if you already have one, possibly.

So, good luck with your campaign. Hope it takes a lot less time than ours did. We started when e-petitions hadn't been invented, and 14 short years later, we will be getting our stadium...

a few points

Thanks for the reaction guys and for signing the e-petition! What a fantastic response from you all and it shows what good fans you guys have down there (first noticed when thousands of you came up here a few years ago!).

In reply to a few points.

theonesmith - Yes. We'll try to get as many fans of other clubs involved as we can. A few posts have gone out but I think Brighton fans was a good place to start as you know what it's all about and the daft things that can be thrown in your way.

Curious Orange - Check the video Bristol City | News | Latest | Latest | FREE: NEW STADIUM VIDEO

House your Seagull and Les Dynam - As others have said it's not for both clubs. It's primarily the home of Bristol City (Rovers and the Rugby Club already share and they have their own plans to renovate...they just lack the money but sure they'll be ok soon).

The Wookie - Well Ashton Gate is great fun and it looks ok. BUT...no corporate boxes, two bogs/two kiosks and two exits in the biggest stand for over 6,000 people, disabled fans sat BELOW pitch level (and yes, that gets flooded), the players gym doubles up as a media centre post-match, stands have structural defects, club staff use 16 huts around the stadium site, the school classroom's ceiling fell in a couple of years back etc etc.

Gary Leeds - You're right. We're trying to get those changes made but the guy who's done it for us as a favour is busy with work. Sure he'll change it soon! :)

Thanks again everyone and please keep the signatures coming (and of course let your mates know!). It's hugely appreciated.
