I'm sure these have been posted before, but as PB has suggested that we are getting as good as Nike can manage, I thought comparing the new shirt to these two might be a worthwhile exercise..

We've done the Barcelona kit already. It is still ironed on with no break in the stripes upon the shirt.

I suspect if the Albion's colour scheme was stripes of two dark colours, then we would have similar individual letters. Having stripes of such contrasting colours means that individual letters just isn't going to work in any colour - it just wouldn't be legible.

Juventus is probably the best similar example, as earlier on this thread, and they have a near identical iron-on patch.

buying tops isnt for me,but i like it,but then i like most tops we have had apart from that gash pink one a few years ago at the goldstone

All this corporate identity stuff is a load of old bollocks, just googled American Express Logo and this was right up there.

So either Blue or White lettering would seem to be a load of balls.

I gather you didn't but the green & black B&H Jobs one when it came out then?

I did. I have it in my cupboard, and I had the 'skint' black and red one. However, it doesn't have a cheap and nasty transfer on the front. Which is what my problem is with, not the colours.

The early versions for the Green and Black shirt did have a nasty print on transfer, the latter versions were sublimated.

[edit] - Ignore me, I'm talking about the Green and Black 'Brighton and Hove jobs' shirt.

 Looks shit. To produce a good design would involve sitting next to a computer with a professional for about 24 hours. It doesn't take long and it could be made to incorporate the logo size/colour to actually look good.

So from all of this about white and blue AMEX on stripes etc etc is fair enough....so why not white lettering on the away strip which is red and black....could have had the same sponsor as the GK kits?

Is the synopsis here "Nike make pretty bad replica kit, and our sponsor was slightly awkward about it too" or have I missed something over the last 170 posts?

And to think the main desire to move off Errea on here was for replica kit quality, not the huge wodge of cash a bigger firm could give.

Because American express only allow their logo to be surrounded by one colour. They will not allow their logo to be printed on multi-coloured paper/cloth. Unfortunately it is their rules about how the logo can be displayed that have ironically made their logo on our shirt look so rubbish.

.

The fact that they've used a black rectangle for the black and red away shirt suggests not. They'll only allow 'text-only' on a plain back-ground, I suspect.

You've found a black and white picture of their logo, therefore 'corporate identity' is a load of bollocks? Nice one.

Given that people's only gripe with the shirt is the sponsor's logo, how exactly will comparing it to France's (admittedly lovely) sponsor-free shirt, be 'worthwhile'?

Yeah classic response!

Amex has two company approved logos - the blue box, which is on the rear of the shirt and shorts, and the "new" typeface logo which was predominantly devised and launched in reponse to needing something that would be appropriate in the context of the stadium. As with all companies they are very protective of their brand assets so yes no doubt that has had some impact on the end product of the shirt. They would have seen a mock up and have obviously taken a pragmatic decision to go with it (doubt very much contractually that they have specific veto on the production techniques of the shirt logo), given that their main requirement is for the logo to be highly visible when viewed from a distance on images in the media.

They definitely could have considered the blue box option. May have looked better.

Yes but I suspect it wouldn't have the same impact from a distance. Especially against the blue of the shirt - plus it would have been two different tones of blue, so actually would probably look worse!

Just as a comparison of quality. The France shirt looks like a bit more thought went into it.

Thanks Greens :(
Also, as it's emblazoned with American Express, if we see a well endowed lass wearing one, do we get to 'rub her tits...', a la the Pamela Stephenson skit on Not The Nine O'Clock News from the eighties ???

Found it :lolol:
