New Royal Mail/CWU Agreement

Owed a living, is the phrase that springs to mind.
We posties genuinely aren't getting a 7% rise, when all the other aspects are taken into account.
The deal really isn't favourable to us, (I'm learning more as the day goes on), hence the need for a £1400 sweetener.
Without that it would be a NO vote, back to square 1, if not further back.

People need to know that the deal is spaced over three years and is as follows:

April 5th 2010 - 2%
April 2011 - 1.4%
April 2012 - 3.5%

We have a fair few changes for us engineers to deal with! Am off to a CWU National Briefing tomorrow to get more information.

Alright SSS, hopefully tomorrow will help us get our heads round this.
I did point out the rise in post number 7.

As for delivery we do lose on this deal.
If the D2D payment is a flat rate of £20.60, that will be approximately £20 a month down on current wages. This lose will be made greater by any increase in D2D quantity.
Losing our early shift allowance and working 7-3, 5 from 6 days a week also costs us money, which won't be replaced by the pay rise.
It truely isn't a good deal for delivery, but as I've said I don't think we really have that much of a case because of the actions in the past from both management and union.

I was just reaffirming for non-postal workers that the deal is spread over three years, I think the public needs to know this, as 6.9% keeps being bandied about with not much detail attached to it!

If the deal is bad for you delivery boys then it may not come in, there are more in delivery than anywhere else in Royal Mail. Hopefully after you local rep has been briefed and the deal fully explained it might not be as bad for you boys.

The behaviour of our rep and those above, over the past 12 months doesn't leave me much confidence in getting to the honest nuts and bolts of the agreement.

if you are paying attention, its 7% more than many are getting. what does it matter the starting point, or are you trying to push the notion that pay rises are for the sake of themselves rather than either keeping pace with inflation or to reward increasing productivity?

Now,wake up at the back.

Being told by your boss that you have to work harder for the same money should give you a few clues.
1) Your boss thinks you are not working hard enough.
2) You are already overpaid
3) The intention of a business is to make a profit. The bigger the better, and if it's at your expense then well done him.
4) Try to work out in your head,7% of nothing.

I repeat, LEAVE MY POSTIE ALONE !

Ours just came and delivered our post, and was trying to have a little whine about it.

"They've only offered us 7%, over three years. Blah blah, whine, whine".

He seemed surprised that an office load of people in the real world who's salaries have been frozen for the last three years, didn't offer much in the way of sympathy.

7%?! I'd love to get that!

I'm not sure I understand you, getting this over three years isn't working harder for the same money:

April 5th 2010 - 2%
April 2011 - 1.4%
April 2012 - 3.5%

Or is it?

not if your in delivery its working for about 2% less ,having approx 35 quid out of your money which is then replaced by 20. Do you really think a 1 - 2 hour a week reduction in hours will decrease our workload ? we'll just be expected to get the same done in less time.Lump sum ? your having a laugh! we had our last due lump sum withheld because one of the blokes totalled a van. & dont forget part of the deal is to make saturday a normal working day, so much for Royal mails " family friendly " buzzword. Good old cwu ...sold their members down the swanee again. As far as I'm concerned they can stick this deal where the sun doesn't shine, I'll make part of my money up with the savings I'll shortly be making on union subs.

Nail head, spot on.

I can't believe the Union was costing us a days wages, a week, last year, to then agree to that deal.

Re lump sum, we always seem to get ours, even though all managers I've ever worked under have been completely unable to effectively manage 'change' in the unit. Which is how some are still able to work 'job and finish' while arriving late, daily.

Sounds like the deal ain't very good for you delivery boys, it will be interesting to hear what all the delivery reps have to say at the National Briefing about the new deal tomorrow.

You may be very pissed off and it does sound it, but it is down to your local rep to ensure that the reduction in your working week does mean you will be doing less work, because apparently this deal is different and the union will now supposedly be listened to my the management.

One thing I will say in defence of the union is before the strikes and this deal there was absolutely jack all on the table from Royal Mail for pay and proper reasoned negotiation on modernisation. Whether this time it will work remains to be seen.

Sceptical old me won't be holding my breath for any new found co-operation between the two sides in the future, lets hope we'll all be pleasantly surprised!

Me neither, but sadly that is the one and probably only thing, our company actually needs.

How did the meeting go, SSS, our union people are still just grumbling amongst themselves, at the moment.

Oh and for the record, our offices second in command, thinks the deal, as it stands, will cost him a minimum of £600 a year.
