Any posties on here wish to comment on the deal?
I've not really got my head round it yet.
There seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors, giving with one hand..., etc.
It feels like both sides were under great pressure to come up with something.
Any agreement left to 'local agreement', will not work, as the militant offices just won't agree, period.
As per the Dispatches programme where the staff were still working to practices from 5-10 years ago.
Sadly that has been done before, we'll get the cash, but I'm absolutely 100% convinced that won't mean wholesale changes of work and attitudes within the RM workforce. That's why there is the £1000 bonus. They only get the bonus if and when the modernisations have been agreed to. Going to be hard for the die hard lefties to convince the rest of the workforce not to take the cash.
The £400 is on condition of agreeing in principle to the deal. i.e voting in favour and not striking. So all the workers get a £400 bonus now, a 7% payrise over the next 3 years, and another £1,000 once the planned modernisation changes are implemented.
Recession ? What recession ?
The £400 is on condition of agreeing in principle to the deal. i.e voting in favour and not striking.
The £1000 is on actually agreeing to the deal, within each office.
The 7% is something like 2 now, 1.5 next year, and 3.5 the year after.
The difficult bit (that I haven't got my head round yet) is our wages are currently split, basic pay, early shift allowance, and leaflet money (door to doors).
Now I think all of those are going to be pooled into our basic, which coupled with a deregulation of D2D, may result in an actual pay decrease, as we are currently paid per item, for these.
My postie is a decent bloke who works hard yet remains cheerful whilst doing a job that the majority of "workers" would not entertain.
He deserves to keep his job, plus any rises or bonuses that come his way.
As for those clerical workers referred to by another poster who have not had a pay rise since Noah was a lad, they are probably earning what they are worth, and probably more than those posties who were out wading through the snowdrifts to deliver your mail to your door for a pittance.
And remember, percentages are deceptive. What's 7% of bugger all over three years?
And remember, new practices seem to be constantly introduced,so why not bang on at the people whose "new practices" seem not to work or not to last.
You lot leave my postie alone.
Ours just came and delivered our post, and was trying to have a little whine about it.
"They've only offered us 7%, over three years. Blah blah, whine, whine".
He seemed surprised that an office load of people in the real world who's salaries have been frozen for the last three years, didn't offer much in the way of sympathy.
I work for Royal Mail am a CWU rep too and quite frankly am astounded at your postie's attitude, the pay deal is good when you compare it to what else is happening with pay deals elsewhere.
And remember, percentages are deceptive. What's 7% of bugger all over three years?
The sad news about the pay deal is that 1 in 4 postal workers wont get to see any productivity bonuses or a pay rise past the second year as they will have been downsized.
Owed a living, is the phrase that springs to mind. For some reason the workforce in some industries are still living in the 70's and somehow feel that the new realities don't apply to them.
There is a lengthy document on the cwu website containing all the details of the deal. When you consider this years 1.5%, the new all -in leaflet payments plus the removal of certain allowances & door to door money I will personally be around £15 a week worse off...... not such a good deal after all eh?
