If not in a position to re start by the beginning of May the season is declared null and void.

No matter what way this is resolved there are winners and losers.

However you can’t relegate or promote teams who aren’t mathematically safe or up.

The players will still need a break and then a preseason so it can’t go on past the end of June especially as Euros are likely to be 2021 now.

May not be able to restart in June - totally unpredictable at this stage.

Bin off the rest of the season. Give Liverpool the title. Promote WBA and Leeds taking EPL to 22, relegate none this year but lob the team in 17th into the playoffs in the next two seasons along with the 3,4 & 5th in the Championship to get the EPL back to 20 over 2 seasons.

Can’t see that happening - there will also be legal challenges from clubs who miss out on Champions League qualification plus other clubs in the top 6 of the Championship who miss out on promotion. Then let’s not forget the same impact in the lower leagues. The only solution is to extend the season when things settle down and the warmer weather starts.

The only sensible solution(s). Government will need to step in and stop Sky (and others) suing for failure to deliver on contracts but writing off this season (and now) is the best way forward.

The season can go on past the end of June if the start of the new season is delayed until the end of August / September. We could then see more midweek matches next season to bring things back on track to finish at the normal time in May.

Huh? World Cup is 2022 - and late in the year.

But isn't the 22/23 season going to start early to take into account the mid-season break for the WC? Delaying the 20 Euros to 21 could have a knock-on effect there as, and this is just a guess, the 21/22 season will also start slightly early to allow the players to have a proper break in 22.

Starting at the end of August/September is the option IF it finishes at the end of June.

If it carries on in to July the the season 20/21 is unlikely to start until October.

The players will need a few weeks off and then some kind of pre-season. Has to be a minimum of 6 weeks between the two.

Loads of players will be out of contract.

The virus is expected to peak in the UK in June. And we won't be in sync with other countries.

Things will be a mess ALL SUMMER.

Obvious thing to do is scrap this season, move Euros to 2021, and hope they can kick-off domestic season in August on time.

If kick-off is delayed until, say, late Sept, scrap all cup competitions.

They'd never allow playing each team once. Who would decide about home advantage?

That is why there wouldn´t be relegation or promotion. I get what you´re saying, but it has to be an alternative. They could of course split the Premier League for one season only so the bottom ten of this season play each other twice.

That won’t work. It just compromises NEXT season as well, and effectively extends the impact of this situation all the way to May 2021. The best option is to void THIS season in some way, hope things are under control by August, and start afresh.

That seems sensible to us because we benefit! Imagine the outcry from Liverpool, WBA and Leeds fan if it was voided. And imagine the outcry if they just took the current standings from Villa fans for example. The Premier League and Football League would be open to all sorts of legal challenges. This won´t be allowed to happen.

If all teams knew next season was a reduced competition with no promotion or relegation then those legal challenges would go away

That will not happen. As I said, there would be legal challenges all over the place.

This season needs to be completed. Whenever that is. The next season would be less of an issue with teams starting from fresh.

I don't agree with this.

Play probably won't happen until after summer. And there are waaaay too many games to squeeze in at the beginning of a season, especially as Euros is likely to follow next year.

Voiding an entire season is probably the most legally sound option - especially if it comes from UEFA and is consistent across European leagues.

Any more legal challenges than would be created by another solution? I would see more challenges and headaches trying to extend the season or complete it at a later date? Player contracts, transfers, pre-contract agreements etc ?
I am just hoping that there are some competition rules that account for this kind of situation so that Clubs kind of know what the decision will be already, even if they don't like it..

I wonder if folk would feel the same if Albion were ten points clear at the top of division two right now.

What about player contracts expiring and 25 man squad restrictions ?

Would we really be allowed to play Andone in July ? Luckily Mooy is now a permanent deal otherwise he'd be back at Huddersfield. Hope we don't need Schelotto after June 30th. Bad luck Leeds, Ben White is back on June 1st.

It would be a complete mess.

The least bad option is void the league and start from scratch in September/October.
