Crap Town
A momentous erection has never before pleased so many all at the same time.

It genuinely seems surreal to me. It's an ACTUAL proper stadium being built for OUR club.

It's something you could actually touch now.

WOW

Still Somewhere in Sussex!
It amazes me how quickly these steel structures go up

My question is, is it coming in a big AirFix box, as it now seems to be going up very quickly

I got goosebumps when I drove past it on Tuesday :falmer:

I like the field that has been left. I know there were legal reasons (Church?) why it couldn't be used, but now it has had to be left untouched it seems to anchor the whole stadium in the rather verdant landscape. It's going to be a good looking stadium in a stunning setting.

The university buildings will be knocked down at the end of September. I went down to the site last week and chatted to one of the hard working geezers, and they were just finishing a new side access road to get the heavy kit down there to enable demolition to start.

he said they were 3 weeks ahead of schedule, and I know this is stating the obvious, but as it's built on chalk the water just runs away when it rains so they can carry on working, rather than working in a mudbath.

he said the big bits will go up fast, but the finishing work which is virtually unnoticeable will take a long time and make people wonder why the hell it's taking so long to finish.

I stood with my 3 lads for over an hour and looked through the little porthole in the blue boundary fence, and it was very emotional. Been a loyal fan since 1974, and after 13 years without a home the pain is slowly ebbing away.

This will probbaly be the most exciting season of my life as an Albion fan, whether we win anything or not.

Way out west
...and if I am not wrong, that is the lower of the two stands that run the length of the pitch!

Correct Gully. The stand going up now is the East stand. It's one tier but with the option of adding another within it in the future. The opposite stand will be the main stand - having three tiers from day one and most of the offices, reception, TV areas etc.

There is a massive amount of demolition/excavation to be done as you can see from my crude image (red area roughly where West stand will be).

Makes you realise that the whole site will be a fair old size once the uni buildings are demolished.

I actually think i will be very tearful on the day of our fist match at Falmer. Like you i have been a fan since 1973 & just can't wait for the day we go to our first home game there, the atmosphere will be electric

You have to get excited about the future of the club seeing these pics, you can imagine having a beer in the bar underneath that stand - a long way from bonfire night at Gillingham with all of 950 of us there and a 4-0 thrashing if I remember rightly, it was difficult to see how the club could survive - Many Thanks to Dick Knight, Tony Bloom and all others (supporters included) who have helped see the club through the dark days and can now enjoy seeing a fantastic stadium for the club rising from the (almost) ashes.

It just occurred to me, why not issue a magazine called "Falmer Monthly" with all the photos in glorious colour.
It could be Brighton's top selling top-shelf magazine by the responses these photos produce....:p
