New Nations League (end of meaningless friendlies for Euro teams - hurrah!)

National sides across Europe will compete in the new league format that will culminate in a Final Four showpiece event in 2019 for the title of Nations League champion.

The aim is to improve the quality of international football and reduce the number of meaningless friendlies as UEFA bid to re-ignite interest in the international game.

Not sure if ITV have lost the rights to England qualifiers or not but this new tournament is exclusively on sky!

Sounds like an excellent idea to add a framework and a bit of competitiveness into the intra-European friendly matches. Might do away with things like swapping out near enough the entire team at half-time just to give everybody a meaningless runaround. Who knows, Scotland may even THRIVE in this new competition.

I quite like the idea of this, as some have said no more meaningless friendlies. Games played to win, Would provide good run ups to tournaments etc. Could be quite an interesting thing. IMO

Far too many stupid international breaks messing up the proper football season - lets go back to the good old days when proper football was played at the weekends and international football was played on a Wednesday night without the need of two weeks break

I would have thought it was better to play friendlies against South American and African teams, after all, when we come up against them in world cups, we seem to be like rabbits in headlights.

Read about this last year and it sounds like an excellent idea. Not fussed with friendlies AT ALL, but having something riding on every game will add that bit of excitement.

They're not adding any more breaks.

Yes I realised it was just to replace the pointless matches but there are still too many breaks in the season - which equals fixture congestion like we now have which can be avoided if everything didn't come to a halt for half of March, for example.
