The last manager gets sacked because they were losing ie shipping goals, so the first thing the new manager does is stop them conceding and not yet concentrating on the front end, Hence it is likely to be a draw.

So what you're actually saying is Gerrard was offered the job and accepted it weeks ago with one condition:-

'I'll not take the job until the Brighton game'.

There was a bookmaker on talksport last night previewing our game with Villa and he said Villa are the slight favourites as they will have the new manager bounce.

He said everyone knows about the new manager bounce and how effective it is, which the hosts agreed with.

Bozza's stats above have poured water over that fire. Was he just saying it to drum up the market? Me thinks so, they will have all the stats and more.

Gerrard in his press conference only an hour or so ago said he hadn't even met some of the players yet.

The international break must have an impact on the new manager bounce. If the club in question has many of the first team squad off on international duty then realistically the new manager will only have one or two days to work with the team.

If he wants to change shape / formation etc then top level players should be able to adapt but any more than that will need time on the training pitch so unlikely to happen from the first match.

Have those stats poured water over that fire? Only three defeats in those 13 games, and one was a caretaker manager away at Leicester, another was against Liverpool. New managers are usually appointed because the previous manager was losing loads, so undefeated in 10 out of 13 looks like a bounce to me.

Sure he'll be happy with a home game, we are slightly tricky with a manager with a reputation, albeit not a side exploding with goals, so he will be happy with a 0-0.

The more you lot convince yourselves it'll be 0-0 and our customary place on MOTD.
The more I assume we'll lose 10-1 having gone in at H/T with the lead and looking comfortable. (As usual)

Well the bounce is meant in terms of wins, and they were saying Villa was favourites to win.

The stats prove that getting a new manager does not guarantee a win in the next game.

Well we are the draw specialist after all, so lump on it.

Maybe if we'd put a Win bonus in Potter's contract rather than a Draw bonus, he'd be more inclined to set up the team to win games rather than draw them.

I'm not looking forward to seeing Steele make his Premier League debut.
