New London to Manchester Line ?

Typical Cameroonian ill-thought rubbish. It's already faster to take the train from London to Manchester than the plane - the problem is that the plane is cheaper. That's what they need to sort. Super-duper fast lines will just see the operating companies charge even more.

And, besides, shaving some time off journeys which can already be done isn't going to help. Why build a parallel new line when there are so many journeys which are still a pain to make and could do with a direct line? Cambridge to Oxford, for instance, or a southern orbital line for Glasgow. These will significantly cut car journeys. For that matter, upgrading such routes as Watford to Gatwick and Reading to Gatwick, and running many more direct trains on those routes - that would be an excellent idea, too. But just getting to Manchester from London a bit quicker than at present? What a pile of nonsense, and what a gargantuan waste of money. I'm sure it will play well with those who want to make the odd quick business dash between the major cities, but it will do very little for those long-suffering regular travellers who just want to get around without using a car or a plane.
