Be good if people could give Bennett a chance (if it's indeed him we're signing).

Just because Villa fans don't rate him, it doesn't follow that he's shit. Maybe he lost confidence playing in their relegation threatened side. Hopefully he's one of those who've struggled in a Premier League team but just need the chance to find their feet & thrive in the Championship.

Wayne Bridge wasn't rated very highly by either West Ham or City fans, but look what happened with him

so because your mate thinks hes shit he must be shit then *rollseyes*

Sorry?

No, not at all. I'm reserving judgement until I've seen him play - lord knows we need some cover at LB.

I was simply passing on the opinion of a ST holder at Boro. In much the same way as we visit other forums to see what their fans make of a player we're after. I thought some might be interested, I won't bother in future,

Correction:
I have just seen the highlights. Chicksen looks just as dodgy as before.

A new left back is essential. Experience and a bit of pace would help.

There was a similar debate in the crowd last night whether Chicksen is up to the job. I think the result enabled most punters to give him the benefit of the doubt and recognise that he is learning his craft at this level. On balance Chicksen had one of his better games but probably needs a bit more time which he may get if we do not attract another 1st choice LB.

He saw a fair amount of the ball in the first half when we were playing around Leeds at will. However he did look a bit ponderous whether to get forward, possibly because like most of us he was shocked at just how space Leeds gave us. Hyypia was encouraging Chicksen to press even higher up the pitch and tighter to the left wing. Secondly (and like several other and more experienced Albion players) Chicksen wasn't quite on Teixeira's wavelength, so missed out on a couple of openings.

Chicksen got a decent defensive test in the second half when much of Leeds impetus was down their right - and he did ok. That's not to say he would cope well with say a really fast wide player like Nathan Redmond up against him.

A year long loan. Will give Chicksen and Maxi another year to develope so this is a good move. Will probably have an option to buy at the end of the loan as there will only be one year left on his contract.

Villa fan here.

Bennett has had a hard time with us. He is not great defensively but gets forward very well and has a decent cross on him.

It is worth remembering that he was mostly playing in a truly hopeless defence, frequently with Baker and Clark (two of the worst centre halves I have seen in 45 years watching the Villa).

Also worth noting that when he wasn't injured, even Ron Vlaar looked iffy playing in that defence.

I wouldn't want Bennett starting here, but it is worth noting he is miles better than the dreadful left back Lambert bought last year (Luna).

I actually think there is a decent player somewhere in Bennett, it just needs to be coaxed out. He strikes me as very much a confidence player, too, so a loan to a championship club is a decent idea.

Basically, he'll be fine for you, he'll definitely do a job for you.

Good post, I personally hope a change of scenery as it were will do him the world of good

He sounds ideal with regard to how we are currently setting up

I wonder just how long Maksimenko needs to "develop"?

Great news. But not sign yet of the badly needed top notch striker. 12 days to go so all still possible I hope.

He's 23. (d.o.b. 8 Dec. 90) Backs -- at least this is my general impression -- take the longest to become defninitvely what they're going to be.

Bennett'll be finer than we currently have, i strongly imagine, but i wouldn't mind us owning a left-back for once - and i don't mean Dan Harding owned again and again whenever we've played his team. If we don't like doing business in January, then surely this is our time, with a hotpot of cash, to really buy for the next few years. Loanees can obviously come in after the deadline, so i hope now we still have some purchases to make in the next 10 days that are fewer come-and-goers, including of course a frontman who'll follow up Holla's underside of the bar curler that didn't quite wholly cross the line.
