Obika was never bought for £2.75 million by a Premier League team. Bennett is clearly better than certain Middlesbrough fans are giving him credit for. Think how some of our fans on Twitter would behave if Barnes was sold by Burnley to a Championship team and they were asked for their views on him.

Some fans (re Barnes) - not 25/25!

Oh well we'll see!

It's beginning to look as if Tony was dead right in his statement in the fans forum about most people will be happy with the squad come end of August?

One or two more to come (Definitely a striker and possibly CB) and we are ready, albeit a bit later than ideal!

Hmmm. Being devil's advocate, if we lose abjectly against Bolton, do you still think we'll all be happy? Holla and Tex played well at Leeds, but if Holla played that consistently, he'd have cost £3m+ from Ajax, not been an out of contract freebie recently of Den Haag. Similarly, Tex is raw. He may well not play like that every week.

Besides which, the season started 2 weeks ago.

Why not? If we rate him highly enough to use him as first choice left back for this whole season, I'd hope we have the faith in him to actually sign him.

There could be a multitude of reasons; we might not rate him highly enough to use him as first choice left back, we might have other targets in mind, we might think that he could do a good job this year but not next year if we're promoted or relegated, we might have an arrangement with Villa to take him permanently if he performs well, we might be saving money for other more substantial signings, there might be some concern over his fitness, he might be willing to come to us for a year but not permanently.........

There's just a few reasons.

Massively chuffed with JB, shame he's only on loan though, I'd have loved a deal to tie him up, he's exactly the kind of attacking full back that will ruin sides in SH tactics.

My ONLY issue with all these loans is that they are a short term solution to a long term problem. This time next year we'll once again be without a left back and a strong creative midfield presence. In that time we're going to be paying X amount on their wages and potentially paying a fee up front to nab them, whether the fees have happened or not idk, but for the money we've received not much has been spent.

Toko - Free
Hughes - Free
Stockdale - 1 Million
Teixera - Loan
Bennett - Loan
COG - 500-750k?
Holla - Free

Say we've spent under a million in whatever fees in the signing of our free agents, and we're still left with a MASSIVE kitty that could have been spent buying instead of renting.

I am HAPPY with our signings without a shadow of a doubt, but I'm just a bit concerned that we're looking at the same amount of problems left to fill next summer, which is gonna be the same headache, and without the huge amount of money coming in.

I am realistic to know that NSC is a good example of BiPolar behaviour. I recently posted something about 2 wins and we are talking away days to Liverpool and 2 defeats and its League 1 and sack the board. So no I don't expect you all to be happy . I would HOPE that you would be a bit more consistent but I suppose that is half the fun and a good way to let of steam.

I did also say "albeit a bit later than ideal!"

PS I don't think we will lose abjectly against Bolton :)

The Dutch newspaper piece I read online via Google translate said Den Haag were disappointed at the end of the season that Holla had decided to move on. So, in other words, he was a free agent because he let his contract run out giving him the widest possible choice of new clubs. Not because they'd decided he wasn't up to it.

Warren Aspinall confirmed that he had been scouting Holla for quite a long time. It's possible that he didn't want to sign a contract because he knew there was a move to England on the cards? A Dutch Barnes?

This is obviously good to hear, and I'm not quite arguing that point. I'm simply saying that he is not a world beater as much as a very competent Dutch player who sits well in a upper-middle Dutch team. So we should expect him to have games where the play just passes him by.

We've done well with signings from Dutch teams down the years - Dean Wilkins, Hans Kraay, Michel Kuipers and now hopefully the Hollacopter.

Have you seen this on the Argus comments?

I Still think him leaving the Premier to Championship, he will be fine, grow and improve with our 'new' side.

He is young (24) and adds youth ready for the future and being there when our older back players move on. He did cost them £2.75M I believe - we get to 'try before we buy'

can't be bad and good luck to him with us,

I saw him last Sunday driving towards the training ground. Nice Black Land Rover, he was on his phone while negotiating the Manor roundabout, therefore he's a cock.

Should have given him a beep and the finger. Can't stand people who do that.
