New kit deal: it is NIKE

Well, as long as it isnt the same as Hartlepool United - then its fine. Amazing how some people on here are constantly moaning.

We are losing millions and Nike have obviously stumped up more than Errea (suspect exact amounts would be revealed soon) so it makes more sense. If the Albion do get a bespoke kit from Nike, then that is a bit of a coup since they dont usually for lower league clubs. I do hope the price isnt ridiculous though, a jump from £40 to £50 could seriously harm sales.

Do wonder if this has links to the rumour of a Nike store opening in Brighton too, certainly makes sense - perhaps that could be linked in with the deal.

Oh, and moaning about where Nike kits are made - how do you know Errea its arent/werent made in the same way ?

PS - do like the above away shirt - same it is Blackburn's current one though.

That shirt is the same as Blackburn away, as well as 2 or three L1 & L2 sides, including Hartlepool, half of the USA National Womens Soccer League, and umpteen pub teams.

I have not seen a Nike club shirt for under £44.99 in the Championship this season, many are £49, even in L2 at Hartlepool they are £43 a pop.

Errea shirts are all made in the EU, where there are regulations designed to protect workers, Nike shirts are not. Nike are the only major sportswear brand not to have signed up to the Bangladesh Accord, or any other schemes that protect the rights of workers in their factories.

What's not to love.

If it's bespoke, good quality and the club have a better financial arrangement, then where's the problem?

With the size of Albion's support, it's going to sell well regardless.

Have to agree with most of this, especially the bit about Nike offering a more lucrative deal in light of FFP, but am concerned about where shirt is made.

But it could be a bespoke kit - we shall see on that, but this would also have an effect on the price.

Obviously I would rather the shirt was sustainably made, but for all we know the shirt might be - though I do doubt that. Likely sponsors will be iron on transfers though - badge wouldn't though.

It's really not that bad, in this day and age - the highest bidder will usually always get the contract.

I feel your pain Phil, I understand this a pretty bitter blow for you being our resident shirt connoisseur and afficionado, however I have to say that template (I presume) actually looks quite nice.

It is indeed a template, and is in use by a number of teams in the English FL. TBF, my main disappointment is Nike, it was a given that we would get template shirts if we went for any of the big 3. But Nike, they are widley accused of employing child labour, and effectively slave drivers, they do not answer to their critics, and do not join with other manufacturers in the fight against exploitation, and yet they charge premium prices for their products.

For fans of collars (That means I'm not looking at you, Hoskins), how about this in blue without the sleeve sponsor?

Yup, that's the Hartlepool template.

Great post. The important bit is in bold.

I have never been too happy with Errea's manufacture quality, stitching from all 3 shirts from the last 3 seasons has started to deteriorate after about 6 months, and from what i've experienced before, Nike's quality is very good.

Errea shirts are all made in the EU, where there are regulations designed to protect workers, Nike shirts are not. Nike are the only major sportswear brand not to have signed up to the Bangladesh Accord, or any other schemes that protect the rights of workers in their factories.

I know what the problem is - Errea need to get rid of the lazy Europeans. Bangladeshi children are clearly better skilled and work harder.

I might e-mail them, they clearly don't realise.

Weird that, to me Nike and other big name manufacturers come across to me as CLASSY and BIG TIME. We're not mooching off some deal with a SECOND RATE manufacturer. We've gotten a BETTER deal with a BIGGER named company who make better quality kit, along with getting us more DOLLAR.

For all those complaining about the Albion moving on from historical suppliers, It's called business, it puts food on your plate.

That's hardly the point is it - surely it's about getting people who DON'T go to the Amex becoming involved? It's about visibility, how good would it be to have kids going to play football with their mates wearing Albion shirts instead of the likes of Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal etc. If local business could stock our shirts, it would give people more ability to get one?? Club shop only retail is the sort of thing I'd expect from lower and non league clubs, not clubs that wish to show the world that they are "Premier League Ready"??

Well isn't that the whole reason for the seagulls online shop, the excuse of not being able to buy from the Amex is a poor one.

If true, that is absolutely horrible.

No, it is 100% made up, using the same Nike template that Blackburn, Barnsley, Hartlepool, Man City, and others in the Uk and overseas use for away & third kits.
