New kit deal: it is NIKE

QPR have released their shirts and they're just templates, really sloppy. Can't see why Nike would do anything different for us, so look at Hartlepool, not Porto or Hertha, for a glimpse of the future.

But as stated by Barber, we are getting a semi-bespoke kit from them. Literally every shirt they make starts off as a template. The smaller clubs get a bog standard teamwear kit with their badge and sponsor on. The larger clubs get the template added to/fiddled with to make them unique. We're going to be somewhere in between.

Semi-bespoke = Our badge and sponsor :)

I hope we have something nice (I like the templates!), was just surprised at the QPR effort.

I think "semi-bespoke" is going to mean that we get this kit with a different coloured collar and swoosh. That's my bet.

That may be why you were replying, but you were having an unnecessary dig at TB.

If TB is 'the club' then I stand corrected - not sure about the use of 'unnecessary' though - dig, certainly.

Well we're not going to see a financial return on the money we put it, but we are going to see a more successful club as a result of the money we put in, and most of us want that (the successful club bit, not the high prices). It's just a different way of using the word. Like you might invest in your children's future - you hope for them to benefit from the investment. The main point is, the club are running at a loss so we're not lining the pockets of some greedy owner, all the money we spend goes on the club we love.

On that basis it would be far more open and honest if the club simply asked for donations, (maybe sell some additional equity as a sweetener) - hyper-inflating the prices of shirts and other merchandise is called a 'rip off' when carried out by other companies.

Yes. We get it. You hate the Albion (board). In fact we got it the 85th time.

Not at all!

Far from it - I have a very high level of admiration for all that they have done for the club and us fans - especially TB.

Does that mean I think they are saints - far from it.

There are a lot of 'sheep' who think they can do no wrong because they have done so much right - if you want to be in that group, no problem but don't assume that those who aren't are less of a fan than you are or appreciate what has been done for the club less than you do.

Your 'admiration' and 'appreciation' is incredibly well hidden, then. Bitterness positively drips from pretty much every post you make. If that's genuinely not your standpoint, you perhaps ought to reassess how you post.

Why? - I'm no sheep.

Praise where praise is due - criticise where criticism is due not excuse where criticism is due.

A rip off is a rip off - whether carried out by a charity shop or a football club - defend the prices charged by all means but don't make excuses for them.

But you don't praise (where its due). You ONLY criticise. Ad nauseum.

Blind? ???

Praise - v - express warm approval or admiration of
Praise - n - the expression of approval or admiration for someone or something

Err. That was said only in this thread and only when HKFC mentioned that you hate the board. I've got to agree with HKFC. Your admiration is very well hidden and only seems to pop up when someone points out that when it comes to TB/Board you're a serial moaner. I can't recall it being freely given elsewhere. I may be wrong but whilst I was waiting for a piece of work to complete I've been back through your posts and every post about TB or the board is either outright hostility or thinly cloaked in criticism.

In a pile of football shirts
But they must have the template they used for last seasons Porto, Hertha and Athletico shirts so why not *******ise it to use it again. I'd be happy with any of those.

I'd imagine previously used templates are consigned to history when they launch new ones. You Might find an old stock of them at wholesalers, but as for actually manufacturing them, I doubt Nike would want To. You can't buy a new Ford Escort any more can you?

Is somebody forcing you to buy this shirt?

Well yes, TB is the club. He chooses how it's run, by employing whom he wants, and telling them what to do. And given what he has done for this club, then I see petty squabbling about a tiny proportion of shares as unnecessary.

On that basis it would be far more open and honest if the club simply asked for donations, (maybe sell some additional equity as a sweetener)
Firstly, the club wouldn't be getting enough donations to make a difference. Secondly, they couldn't use those donations to buy players/pay wages anyway, because they aren't an allowable income under FFP rules. You haven't thought this through have you.

hyper-inflating the prices of shirts and other merchandise is called a 'rip off' when carried out by other companies.
Have the club announced the price of the new shirts? Are they out of line with similar shirts from other clubs? And you don't have to buy them.

Just back and read some of the responses to my comments!.

First off, the idea that I only criticise and never praise the board and TB in particular simply doesn't hold water! Such a criticism would also be far more valid if it was coming from posters who were less sycophantic to TB when it came to their own posts. Have any of them ever directly criticised any of TB's actions or is he truly a God who can do no wrong, ever. Accusing me of only criticising TB is not only wrong but sits very uncomfortably coming from posters who only post from one viewpoint.

Then to the specific of my alleged crime - suggesting that high shirt prices are a 'rip-off' - I was replying to a poster who suggested that an extra £5-7 added to the price the shirt could be sold for was an "investment" in the club - to reiterate, it wouldn't be, it would be a rip-off. Nobody 'needs' to buy overpriced goods but when there is a monopoly seller of any product and this monopoly is used to hyper-inflate prices then 'rip-off' is a valid description.

Finally to the poster suggesting I hadn't thought through the sale of equity directly by the club and saying such sales didn't count towards FFP - well, put simply they are wrong! Any loss this season between £3m and £8m has to be covered by the issueing and sale of equity by the club. Every pound paid by fans towards share purchases would be £1 less that TB will have to shell out.

No, you are wrong, firstly because you can't read - I said "they couldn't use those donations to buy players/pay wages anyway, because they aren't an allowable income under FFP rules". That's donations, not selling equity. Secondly, TB has been willing to shell out, but FFP limits the amount he's allowed to shell out, and other income streams (like selling merchandise) allow us to spend more on the team that we would otherwise be able to spend. Thirdly, why should TB sell the club to other people?

Donations may not be allowable as a positive figure in the FFP P&L but every pound donated would still mean £1 less that TB will have to pay from his own pocket to buy yet more equity in the club in order to cover the losses we have made between £3M and £8M. (I wonder what value will be placed on the shares he buys, 1p or £1 each ???).

FFP doesn't limit the amount TB spends on the club - it merely states which parts don't count towards FFP calculations, which parts have to be by purchase of equity rather than loans and which will attract a penalty.

'Why should TB sell the club to other people?' - absolutely no reason at all, likewise no reason why he shouldn't.
