With FC Cologne getting relegated and the subsequent firesale and release of players...and our eye on the market for a keeper - I think Gus should take a look at Michael Rensing.

Cologne have released him after relegation but having seen him play for them on numerous occasions, I think we should take a look. Once understudy at Bayern to Oliver Kahn - i think he was on the verge of joining Leicester before Cologne lured him back to the Bundesliga.

Come on Gus...give him a trial....:clap2:

2 years ago, I suggested we snap up Federico Balzaretti, Italian left back. I was told it was ridiculous, I scoffed at the rebuffals.

He's in the Italy squad for Euro 2012. Just goes to prove I was right. :dunce:

On the subject of Rensing though, where has the OP seen that Koln have released him? I can't find anything to support that.

Don't have a link but has definately been released (German Seagull on Argus site mentioned it a few days ago too) and would indeed be a flairtastic acquisition!

He's actually contracted until 2013 after signing an extension at the start of last season.

BUT - They've just promoted the German U20 international keeper (Timo Horn) to the no1 shirt at Cologne now and made a club statement saying that he's going to be the main man at 1FC Koln next season. It then went on to say that it would not be right or fair to keep the more experienced Michael Rensing as a backup keeper...This is a statement from the coach and sporting director.

I've seen him play at the Rheinenergie on numerous occassions - and he's been class. His distribution is very good - and technically he seems superb on both shot stopping, and - something we're missing - handling.

I'm sure he's been in the Germany National squad too at somepoint.....

(and we don't have any german players in the squad as of yet!!) adding to the multinational side to our team.
