Hi all,

I presume some of you might have seen the item on South Today at the end of last week regarding the plans for a new football ground for Horsham FC.

I was wondering if any of you guys who lived near Horsham or who had an interest in Sussex non-league football would be willing to provide some positive comments to Horsham District Council regarding the plans.

I know that a lot of our fans, including myself as a Brighton supporter, want to see the Falmer plans approved and follow it with great interest. I appreciate that we're a lot smaller than you guys but I think we're also going to have a tough fight for approval so and help would be great.

If you would like to pass comment on this issue to Horsham District Council, please use the following link:

http://www.horsham.gov.uk/strategic_planning/main/local_dev_documents_4454.asp

Many thanks for your help on behalf of Horsham Independent Supporters Club

Well you've got my support.

Perhaps you could mention how Crawleys stadium makes them look like a brighter more progressive town. That should stir up the local snobs to do something about it.

Hornet, did you know that one of the stinking letters in the county times about not wanting the new ground was actually written by an ex Horsham player?

Come on people get writing on this one, If we can help Wrexham then we can help a local club in thier fights for a new gorund. Horsham is full of NIMBY's a la falmer and getting planning permission for anything in Horsham is like a true battle so all input supporting the clubs bid will help especially from people in Horsham and the surrounding areas.

hornet is a good friend of mine and I advised him to post on here as there is so many great people on here happy to help out local teams with support where required.

Cheers tinx and all.

I did see the letter from the ex-Horsham player and he was also at the open evening they had when the plans were displayed. Unfortunately it turns out he is one of the many Horsham residents who have large, over-priced houses who seem to be against any kind of development that will create new affordable housing, thus lowering the value of his own property.

They all seems to think that there is going to be some Old trafford style ground built with excessive light and noise pollution not to mention all the hooligans! Someone even asked me if they would be holding concerts there!

Unfortunately its always been the same with Horsham residents, they never try to find out the facts.

Is there somewhere we can see details of what is planned and where. It would be better to be more informed before putting pen to paper.

Are we supporting the Core Strategy or a Site Specific Allocation - and do we refer to the site as Hornbrook Farm ?

Will do Hornet.

As a Horsham resident I know how difficult it will be to get this through HDC planning department as they have previously seemed intent on banning fun in our town.

As to the actual location, I believe that the latest proposal is for the land behind Hilliers and the caravan centre, is that right?

Therefore for those who dont know the area, although greenfield it is adjacent to a large retail development (garden centre, pet store, timber world & caravan retail sales park)

Thats the correct site Paddy. Although it is designated greenfield site its really isn't. I think the problem is its part of a three part development basically meaning the ground is built if ther eis also a go ahead for some houses and a park and ride site or something but I'm sure hornet will make it clearer.

Thanks for that. I've been meaning to write in support for a few weeks now, but you've done the hard work for me. I'd rather they stayed in the town centre but Hornbrook is better than Molesey or nowhere. Only go and watch once or twice a season, but would hate to see them disappear.
Not as easy to follow as the BHA planning links though!

ground plans

Here are the links to the plans on HDC website:

www.horsham.gov.uk

1. Select option 'LDF'

2. Select option 'Preferred Options'

3. Under 'Site Specific Allocation of Land'

(i) select 'Inset Maps Part 3' (Page 2 will give you a map of Horsham showing sites; Policy AL10 covers the site of interest)

(ii) select 'Main Document' (Pages 54-57 cover Policy AL10)

4. Scroll down and select 'How to Comment' (Print off comments form (4 pages) or reply online)

Comments must be received by Horsham District Council by 1600 on 18 March 2005.www.horsham.gov.uk

There are 3 parts to the plans; the new ground, park&ride and 200 houses. Unfortunately most of the negative comments so far have been centred on the ground rather than the housing or park&ride. This was proved by the picture on last Friday's WSCT with people standing holding red cards outside the garden centre.

What is worth mentioning here is that HDC are IN FAVOUR of these plans - it is them who have put them into the LDF (Local development Framework) so comments above about HDC planning dept are a little wide of the mark (this time anyway)

Suggest people also write to the West Sussex County Times (Market Square Horsham) as there has been loads of 'anti' letters in there recently.

As a follower of the Hornets for many many years when not watching the Albion, this is another case of NIMBYS.
As for the ex-player...well if you say him play then perhaps he should have been considered an ex-player when turning out for the poor team in the 80s.
It must be remembered that they also run youth teams as well...something to keep the kids off the streets?
As we only manage about 300 for each home game, I am sure the local residents would rather have us once every couple of weeks rather than some superstore, Toys-R-US etc!

Give Me lard........

Drop a line to the Council today..grass roots football NEEDS YOU NOW

And of course automatic promotion would be nice - but Walton & Hersham have been known to upset us all before.

We may not be as fashionable as Lewes, Worthing , Crawley and the others...but we do provide a good standard of football here.

Lee Lee Lee Carney is a creative goal scoring midfielder.

Jamie Taylor nippy and has an eye for goals as well.

Plenty of ex-Albion connections as you would expect... I remember seeing Sir Norman Gall strutting his stuff at Queens Street!....memories!

Thanks everyone..following the Albion and Horsham there are too many similarities!

Hope we can learn from the ideas used in the past!

The more people to comment the better!
