Now that it is clear that we do actually have the money to build the thing do you think there is a chance that we might actually get the thing built in proper time now?

The two and half years announced back in the autumn was a ridiculous length for a 22,000 seater stand and I was convinced at the time that the reason for this huge time was that finance was a problem and that the club was giving themselves time to find the money within this project. Since most of the cost involved is actually in the construction little in proportionate terms will have been used so far. I therefore suspect that with Blooms funding fully in place we could have this finished much quicker.

But am I just pissing in the wind?

As a comparison the Madjeski was built in nine months. I know ours will be better, but two and half years?

I doubt it but you could be right, after all the Buckingham group start work on the Olympic handball arena soon so might want to steam ahead with Falmer?

It was supposed to be open for Aug 2010 but was then delayed for '4 mths' so the opening was put back a year.

That didn't make sence to me. We could be pushing for promotion in a very wet winter & getting soaked whilst our new stadium stands empty.

So maybe we only need to steam ahead by the 4 months to get there a whole season early? They certainly seem to be pressing on well.

It looks like contingeny time to me, why would you have the stadium sitting there doing nothing when you could be maximising your revenue?

I just thought it was part of the deal that we had the slowest built stadium EVER...........

I couldn't believe the amount of time either,but it was something to do with the university buildings and roads around it etc.Lets hope we can push it on as the sooner the better.

They can't work any faster. New laws are in place that says all new football stadia must be built using electric plant. They can work for 30 minutes at a time, but a full recharge of the batteries takes 3 days.

We are not JUST building a football stadium. There is a huge amount of infrastructure works including demolishing and rebuilding a brighton Uni building, new access roads, a new bridge over the railway line - the clue being that this is costing £66m to build.

And to £66m in two years is not an overly long time to expend that sort of money. Oh and we can't just decide the development has to be completed earlier; Buckingham's completion date will be set in the contract already... if you want it finished earlier then you have to accelerate the works and nine times out of ten you end up shelling out a load of EXTRA cash and not realising anything like as early a completion as you would like.
