Ok this seems change one but the UEFA bank accout holders want, I dont understand how this is fair to anyone. If I have understood the groups are gone, there are groups of 8 playing 4 home and 4 away, and the points gained feed into an amalgamted table of all the other teams. 1-8 are straight into the round of 16. next 16 play off, last ones eliminated-no relegation from champions leage to europa, and from europa to conference(possibly good)

Thoughts?

If the criteria is .. more teams, more games, more money. Then clearly it's good.

If the criteria is ... integrity of competition. Then bad.

I still want us to qualify though

For Champions League and Europa League there will be 4 pots of 9 teams seeded by co-efficient. Each team will play two sides from each pot, one at home and one away, drawn at random (and keeping teams from the same country apart).

The theory is because everyone is playing 2 teams from each pot the difficulty level for each team in is roughly similar when it compares to other teams within their pot.

Clubs in Pot 4 will play 2 games against teams on a similar level giving them more chance of at least winning some matches. Plus bigger games will be happening more often and taking place earlier in the tournament as all top seeded sides will have 2 games against another top seeded side in the league stage.

Of course it's going to generate more money but currently a group stage win in the Champions League pays about £2.5m, that money could prove very useful to some of the smaller clubs who reach the league stage and this format gives them a better chance of winning more games.

The one thing I like about it is the getting rid of CL sides going into Europa, and Europa into Europa Conf. Never liked that.

Other than that....hmmmm. Not sure.

There was talk of some big clubs qualifying for CL through past European results rather than present league placing. Is this still happening.

Change for changes sake. Why can't the powers at be just leave the game alone. What next, Blue Cards....oh hang on.
They have apparently walked that idea back already.

Gianni Infantino has ruled out the introduction of blue cards as part of a sin-bin trial, stating: "It is red card to the blue card."

Football's rule-makers are set to approve sin-bin trials, but an idea to use blue cards is likely to be ditched.

No. It will still be normal qualification via league position. However there are two extra Champions League places for the 2 nations with the best co-efficient this season. If the Premier League get one of the extra spots it would go to 5th place and other European places adjusted down the league.

And that would represent a quarter of the Premier League qualifying for the 'Champions' League. Bloody ridiculous.

I don’t see this as a good thing. Virtually meaningless matches between big clubs are not exciting and just make the ‘glamour’ fixtures routine, rather than a rare occasion to be savoured. Less is more - a phrase you’ll never hear from anyone running football.

Sky Sports are reporting the draw for the new format will mainly be computerised. Simulations have shown a manual draw for the Champions League alone would require 900 balls and take 3 to 4 hours to complete.
