Who would you like to see as the new England captain ?

I would prefer Stevie G, I think it could be just he tonic to get him playing at his best which is sorely what england need. Terry would be a great captain but hes already playing great for England !!

Think SG would be great - not so sure about JT playing well for England?? He had a dreadful world cup!

Whereas the rest of the squad played brilliantly, I suppose?

Gerrard for me. Leads by example, in touch with all areas of the team on the pitch as he covers the whole thing, and with him wearing the armband and Terry organising at the back you'd have two 'leaders' on the pitch.

Gerrard would be my choice. Anyone who can inspire a team to come back form 3-0 down in the champions league final has something special to offer.

Im glad we have given up on Owen being captain.

I think either Gerrard or Terry, both have a bit of passion - they need that on the pitch. Scrunch up your fists like Butcher or Adams did

Got to be Terry, if he can lead a team of ego's like chelsea's and have there respect then im sure he would be able to do it for his country!

I wouldn't want Gary Chuckle anywhere near the armband.

Terry is solid but not inspirational enough. Vice Captain.

Gerrard all the way. The most complete footballer in the England set up.

Gary Neville - I'm sure i'll be slated for this but he has great leadership qualities is respected by the other players and has a wealth of internatinal and european experience.

Stevie G - i don't think so - his performances in general are pretty poor and he hardly inspires confidence. Doesn't come across as much of a leader and only captain at Liverpool because he's the scouser fans favourite.

John Terry - give it a cuple of year sfor when gary neville retires and let him take over the matle then - could be one of our most inspirational captains but let him get another year or two under his belt.

Gerrard would just be Beckham all over again. No real verbal or tactical inspiration and far to prone to hitting hopeful long cross field balls and running around like a headless chicken because they try to take to much on and win it themselves.

Nevilw would be good but to old, needs someone who has a good few years left in him.

Terry, good understanding of the game, very verbal but intelligent with it adn currently captaining the best team in the land. Also has enourmous respect from his peers as a man and a player.

Got to be JT.

Terry or Neville, with Terry edging it because he's got more years left.

Gerrards crap form for England over the past 5 years, despite his incredible liverpool performances makes me question his deserving of a place in the starting lineup! I stand by the fact that he CAN be a great player, but in an international, he hasn't been great since Munich in 2001.

He's scouse and he's HARD - i don't fcuking think so normally spends half the season whinging about some injury or another he's got.
