Great, but it's not a hardtail. Not too keen on the additional weight, and power required during ascent that a full suss carries.

Bit light weight for thrashing in the forest though, Ive seen them bend in two at the chainstay before !!!

Ive owned a Missile and a Patriot 7+, good solid bikes a friend of mine had a Evo3 and its still going strong to this day, can't say fairer than that !!

Done the South Downs Way in October (see the URL in my signature) and it's not that bad.

One big tip....... get yourself a VERY comfy saddle.

Think I'd be looking at a half decent KONA.

Not great for playing in a forest then.

Twigs and branches mangling up the derailleurs.

No good for going over bumps, which cuts just about everywhere, including the roads.

Anyone find a suspension "bouncy" bike with hub gears?

I have just purchased the aboves cheaper brother...Kona Blast 2006 at 400 notes is a good choice for a novice like me.......the cycle you have is a realy popular make and model...it will serve you well Woodchip.

Slightly off topic, I ride a Bianchi on the road and am already mindful of needing a 'winter' bike.
Anyway, yesterday, I saw a Spec Tri-cross, which looked very nice & may well (expensively) fit the bill. As well as ride on rougher terain.
