Anyone see the new Battlestar Galactica movie last night ? Fookin brill. Not sure about Starbuck being a bird (and now named after a coffee shop) but it works for me. Looks like this is probably going to kick off a new series "exclusive to Sky One". In the 3-hour jobbie last night, we saw the evil Cylons wiping out Caprica in a series of savage thermo-nucleur blasts. Tear-jerking scenes as the pilots of a small military spacecraft on Caprica during the destruction, had to draw 'lots' to see who they'd take with them as desperate civilians fleed the doomed cities.
A convoy of civilian spacecraft tried to escape, but only a few of them had light-speed capabilities to jump out of the combat zone. Desperate measures ensued to transfer civilians onto those craft that could "jump" as quickly as possible before Cylon fighters arrived to attack and take them out. Some made it, many were left behind to their certain death. Now the survivors have all got to breed like mad to save and replenish the human species, as we're down to our last 50,000 (or the "bare bones" as Harry Redknapp would say).

A grim and uncertain future then, as the last surviving Battlestar of the entire fleet, Galactica, makes its way across the universe in search of the "legend" - planet Earth. Stuff Stargate SG-1, THIS is gripping stuff. Marvellous.

Well I like it anyway.

damn missed it

Starbuck's a bird? typical yanks re-doing old classics and changing them

Glad they have actually redone this to suit the latest graphical trends but to change a character like that...WRONG!

It was quality, I saw it last week and think they are rerunning it on a regular basis. Goes to show you that new sci fi can be decent unlike that pile of shit Star Wars effort!

They have just started filming a series of it, which will no doubt premier on Sky One, becasue of the success of the remade film.

It works ok though Crabbers. The good thing is, that unlike the cheesey 70's show, the crew in this one don't all look like they've just walked off the Dallas set. There's a grim reality to it, without all the lipgloss and blokes with chiselled jawlines you normally get. And they don't mind showing kids being left behind and blown up by the Cylons either. The space effects are bloody good as well.

I don't normally go for stuff like this (never bother with Star Trek or Stargate series, stuff like that), but I'll give this a go as it does look pretty decent.

I always felt that the humans kind of deserved to get their arses kicked due to their extreme stupidity. So you've been at war with these metal death robots for aeons, they say they want to give up all of a sudden and tell you to fly all your battleships to one spot in the middle of space, thus leaving all your planets without any defence. They're metal death robots! What are they going to do without a war? Pick flowers? What a bunch of TOOLS.

The story line to this one is different and far more feasable. The cylons tap into the defence systems and find a way to deactivate all the defence systems on board the battlesatrs and fighters, effectively rendering them sitting ducks.

I wont go on and spoil it though.

To be fair though, the Cylons hadn't been seen for over 40 years. They then developed a blonde bombshell of a Cylon, who started sleeping with one of the top guys who designed the entire defence grid for Caprica. Through him, she found out all the secrets of the system, and managed to build "back doors" into their defence grid, which the Cylons then exploited by disabling Caprica's defences immediately prior to a sudden and devastating attack. The President offered an unconditional surrender, but the Cylons didn't even respond, and instead destroyed the planet, killing the President and wiping out the government.
NOBODY could have seen that coming. The blonde had big tits and EVERYTHING. (and her spine glows red when she shags him).

Galactica was about to be decommissioned, but after the rest of the fleet was wiped out in that first attack, it now remains the last hope for mankind. Sorry if I've spoilt it for anyone, but its still WELL worth watching, its doing the rounds on Sky Movies now.

Ahh, I see. I was going off the original film plot line which was a little flimsy to say the least. This version sounds much better. Why did I waste my evening watching Liverpool vs Levski Sofia? Still if it's on Sky movies it'll be repeated several times a day so I won't miss it.
Yes this one sounds much better. Nuclear bombs, explosions, big-titted blonde robot women ahoy!

Last week they split it in half, showing some on Sky One and the rest on one of the Movie channels. Now the full 3 hours is on uninterrupted on Movies. Dunno when its on next, but its bound to be on again in the next few days.

Even BETTER news....
I have it on good authority that this was the first of a TWO-PART movie, the 2nd half of which will be screened from 11st March on Sky Movies 4. I am assuming that this will be another 3 hour epic, before we are launched into the TV series.

Last nights was a 15 certificate. Hopefully, the new one will be an 18, and will focus heavily on mankinds urgent breeding requirements, and perhaps some in-breeding with the Cylons to spice things up a bit.

Marvellous scenes.

I saw it a couple of months back and I thought it was a little too much like 90210 meets Battlestar Galactica. To many complicated interpersonal relationships and not enough hardcore robot blasting fun.
Where did yours end? I think it was two 3 hours parts when I saw it, but I don't quite remember.

According to TV listings the movie on 11 March is a repeat of the one just shown. The tv series has been commissioned by Sci-Fi channel (US) and Sky one. It will consist of 13 episodes and will begin showing in Autumn 2004.
