odds are bollocks if you ask me. Probably barely any money dictating these plus what money there is is probably swayed by the bullshit rumours

I think the public (mainly fuelled by the way the media report transfer deals) still have a perception that the first point of contact between clubs/players/agents is the buying club making an bid. All the time no bid has actually been reported, the fans are left thinking "why aren't we bidding for him!".

It's well worth reading the Secret Footballer's book to get just an idea of the nonsense that goes on way before an 'official' bid even goes in. What we would see as 'tapping up' is basically constant in 99% of deals.

Bids are slow to materialise, especially as clubs don't just pay lump sums any more. These deals are structured over several seasons with a lot of discussion back and forth prior to the 'bid' even going in.

Then we add into the mix agents for the clubs, agents for the players.......

Also, consider Maupay may well not be first choice. We may well be trying to get to bidding stage on another deal first.

Thank you... insightful. Seriously tho’, we’ve had a need to help Muzza out for a very long time, and we cannot go through this window without signing a striker or we risk almost certain relegation... the clock is ticking...

Having watched the game yesterday and from what I’ve seen and know of Maupay already, this signing makes even more sense now. He would be ideal playing either up front, in one of the narrow ‘wide’ positions or behind as a number 10 as we saw Trossard drift into at times yesterday. That fluid front three would really suit him, hope we get this done.

Dean Smith wants to add another 3 or 4 with Maupay being his top target I see him going there.

Totally agree . All about an interchangeable front 3 .

Villa want everyone and anyone. Any player any lower mid table are linked to SO are Villa. Massive sense of entitlement there...Lets see where Maupay ends up but I would imagine at this stage its very much game on for us re this transfer..

He’s played for their manager before and I’ve no doubt that they pay better than us. Someone at the Albion has some selling to do.

Not an ideal start to his PL career if he delays until deadline day.

He will find it hard to initially break into any team if he has missed all their preseason tactical training.

He's getting poor advice from somewhere.

Having missed pre-season with his new club, then to break into their first team he really needs to join a club who are still relying on a striker who is closing in on 36 years old, and can't possibly go on much longer, but has to because that club have so little behind him that the other summer move is to bring a striker back from a loan spell in The Championship where he was hardly pulling up trees.

BINGO.

Given the history between the two chairman, hardly a surprise. I’ll be amazed if we get this one over the line. If they want him I imagine Villa are firmly in the driving seat regardless of what the player would prefer.

Agreed. While I expect the respective CEOs are handling the deal, Bloom will be worried that Benham is trying to screw him and vice versa.
