Neal Maupay

Are we all happy with this?

Overall, I’ll be very very happy! I think this is the best striker you could have pulled out of last year’s Championship and we’ve probably got him!

Two concerns though.

1. Can we create enough chances for him by getting the ball in the box enough? He’d have got very little service last year.

2. The last time we tried to replace Murray with a record Albion purchase fee for a high scoring goal poacher from the division below, he did not fit into the type of possession based football we were playing. He was used on the wing at times and was generally considered a failed signing.

It’s certainly a gamble going after someone who has never scored a Premier League goal but even buying an experienced goal scoring Premier League pro for £30m+ like Benteke has it’s risks.

But overall all, I think this signing will work very well indeed.

Arse town Vanilla can trot on. Why would a Frenchman want to go to the Midlands? The English Riviera is a vastly superior option.

Maupay is definitely a gamble but the sort of gamble a club like ours should be taking.

if he does well and scores 15+ goals it’s a fantastic bonus for the club.

If he does even better we can potentially sell him on for 40+ million.

If he flops we can just sell him back to a championship side for close to our money back.

He’s clearly an outstanding championship player, now we see if he can step up.

Hasn't played any pre-season friendlies due to transfer talk. If he signs, Hughton would have integrated him till January! Big chance for Potter to show his colours!

Fed up with Chris being bad mouthed for things he didnt do.

The opening game last year he played Bissouma, Bernardo and Ali J there is also a chance Andone would have featured had he not been injured. We all know how that game panned out for them.

So in that light if Potter is a bit more conservative than Chris was with his new signings I hope he isnt slated for giving them more time.

The difference is that if Maupay arrives, he will only have 5 days to integrate before the first match. a) I'm not bad mouthing Hughton, but b) it's something he did do and we all know it. However, my comment was intended to be an ironic observation as you might might tell from the fact I said January rather than September. Are you American?

Owen has consistently reported we are interested in Maupay for weeks as has Tom Barclay who likewise has decent sources.

True that! [emoji6]

Apparently terms agreed and we have him.

No. Just wanted to share that terms agreed we’re confirmed before 9.30am today. Please don’t shoot for that.

But you insisted several transfers were done before and it all just seems logical guesswork. Even Matt Clarke this Summer you got wrong. You claimed there was some deal on deadline day that was done and Tau was going the other way and that was the hold up which was clearly make believe nonsense as he signed for someone else minutes later. So do excuse us if we file your suggestions under ‘guessing’ for a while. I do hope we sign Maupay and it looks as good as done, but if it does happen, it doesn’t prove you’re‘itk’ as you happened to pop up after the article was published this morning as per usual....!

and you choose to believe that do you?

This isn’t the back of a local rag, L’Equipe is regarded as one of the finest sporting broadsheets in Europe. And naturally they take a lot of interest in French players over here. They likely have sources close to the player and if they say it’s a done deal I’m very inclined to believe it is.

I expect confirmation from other sources today and a club announcement on Monday.

At least if we do sign him (which, touch wood, is looking likely) it'll put an end to this bulls*** about this unwritten rule which means we can never sign any player from Brentford because our chairmen don't like eachother.
