He’s had a fab first season, but he has had plenty of chances: 38 shots on target (8th in PL) and 92 in total (6th in PL). We have not struggled to create chances but we have struggled to convert them.

Completely agree. He's had a fantastic first season in the Premier League, however I think Neal himself would tell you that there is definitely scope for improvement, as his chance conversion rate has at times been variable. He's still young though and there is much more to his game than just goalscoring, his hold up play is superb despite his stature.

I think the two goals that stick out in my mind were his two late winners against Arsenal, two great finishes in different ways and to think where we'd be without those additional 4 points!

I was really annoyed Sutton was so quick to call his penalty incident in the first half a dive. Even from the angle Sutton saw I thought the defenders leg clashed with Maupay’s thigh, enough to send him off balance. Exaggerated maybe, but not a dive.

Firstly, a lockdown story:

Neal is very good at what I still call (in an annoying and old fashioned manner) computer games. He was our FIFA20 representative in a big online tournament organised by Leyton Orient but lost narrowly to a Dutch Pro FIFA player. he streamed the game on his twitch feed. My son was watching and Maupay was switching effortlessly from French to perfect English in his commentary. At the end he then asked if anyone watching wanted to play Fortnite with him and he teamed up with Brighton fans on it, including my son. It's probably my boy's only happy memory of April - the day he played online games with a Brighton striker.

On the field Le Petit Shithouse has been exactly what we've needed this season. Full of running and a constant annoyance he'd be horrible to play against. Add to that 10 goals in his first Premier League season and we have a star of the future in the making.

How long we'll hold on to him I'm not sure but I certainly hope he's going to be leading the line next season.

Glad you started this thread as I would've done if you hadn't. Maupay seems to be a little underappreciated on here I feel, given the season he's had for us.

As people have already mentioned, 10+ goals in your debut PL campaign, aged 23, is pretty damn respectable - and we all know he could/should improve his conversion rate in time.

But more importantly, he's finally an Albion striker with the modern-day attributes to allow us to play a more fluid & enterprising style, helping us move into the "post-Murray" era, if you will. His mobility, strength, movement, nuisance-factor, technique, hold-up play - he's got a lot of strings to his bow when you analyse it, all of which are key to the style Potter wants us to play.

Really looking forward to seeing how he progresses next season, especially with additional quality around him. Been comfortably our best signing of the summer, for me.

I too was annoyed. It was a clear case of not quite being able to get through two players, but not quite a deliberate sandwich - he went down in a tumble. But there was no 'dive', no real theatricals, and not much of an appeal. Basically, they bumped, he lost his balance and fell over - then obviously thought 'might as well appeal'. Sutton turned it into a rant about there being too much diving in the PL and how was it going to be stamped out.

I like him. We shouldn't forget he's still a work in progress. This season he's scored some which I didn't expect him to get but also missed quite a lot of good chances. Now that we're staying up I expect him to push on and be a more consistent finisher. He should be aiming for 15+ goals.

You mean like the sitter Murray missed at Everton?

He could also learn how to lay off to someone better placed from Murray too.

For me, he often delays the final ball or plays a poor one, when the chance isn't on for him.

All of this will come with more experience, but if he was on the field with Murray, he would be made aware of it a bit more forcefully

Aiming for perhaps but it's not likely, is it? Only 3 players have hit that mark this season (Vardy, Ings, Aubameyang).

We needed a bit more nastiness in the side. Several of our lot (Webster springs to mind) look like pushovers too often. Murray was the only one with any consistent cunning/shithousery.

Would bet on Maupay having a couple of Andone moments next season but I miss that element of incendiary entertainment, as long as it doesn't damage us like it did at home to Scummers.
