Nope. Burned into my memory as if it were yesterday.

It was the only goal I ever scored and some dimwit Lino flagged me offside even though I got the ball in my own half.

I was a truly awful baller. This was my one and only half decent 30 seconds and he robbed me. Robbed me, I tell you.

Still, at least I’m over it now.

When I was 15 I was invited to trial at Bournemouth. I didn’t go too busy being a teenager.
I started my apprenticeship at 16 and the guy I worked with was approached regularly by football league sides he always turned them down saying he was earning more as a sparks. He played Saturday’s for a Sussex team can’t quite remember who now.

U21's for Southwick was as far as I got before leaving to go to uni.

And I never scored a career goal as I was a keeper, nearly scored when I went up front for the last 15 one game though.

Yes. Posted on here as Snoobs? (I hope I have that correct?) and on his way to play for Worthing when he was caught up in that horrendous air crash at Shoreham. Utterly and completely tragic.

I was (and still am) a rubbish footballer, as several regulars on here will confirm (@Jack Straw , @WATFORD zero) but I was once booked by an FA Cup final and Fifa-listed referee.

At a college reunion a few years ago, the bloke who was our football club secretary mentioned that anyone who had ever been booked while he was in charge had been booked by David Elleray. He knew this because, as secretary, he was sent all notifications of bookings so that we could pay the (negligible) fines, and Elleray was the only referee officious enough to book players at that level. He remembered the name as it was quite unusual.

The booking was for dissent, specifically for complaining that the ball was too hard. He claimed it couldn't be because he had checked it himself. I recall pointing out something to the effect that he 'didn't have to head the f***ing thing.' And I might well have called him a bad word after that, but it was about 50 years ago, so we have to rely on the balance of probabilities ...

I wasn’t much cop as a player myself, but my brother and my Dad both made semi-professional. I have 3 claims to fame, one being the winning goal in a televised match in Ottawa, Canada way back in 1979, two nutmegging Angelo Anastasio in a pro-am match in California in 1980, and the third being a perfect hat-trick at Deepdale in a completely meaningless match in 1993.

I will happily argue that I'm the worst. Played goal for brighton college seconds, a school where anyone half good at sport played rugby, and made one appearance for the firsts where we duly lost 7-1, despite the best efforts of @Mackenzie at centre half to save my blushes.

Frustrating that i understand the game inside out, but my feet are just useless. Have managed to coach my daughter to become a league footballer at 17 though, she actually used to think i was quite good until the penny dropped at age 10

I played a couple of games for our leagues Rep Squad in the early 90's, the first one being against Langley Sports(now Eastbourne Borough). Our team was made up of 20 something whippersnappers who all thought we were the dogs bollocks. Langley came out all in their mid to late 30's, looking like rejects from the Flying Pickets and duly wiped the floor with us. They passed us off the park and I think we were 5 nil down after about 20 mins. Final score was 5-1 IIRC

Was in a professional academy until age 16 when I was released, trialed at a few clubs after that but was unsuccessful. It’s really not easy to make it pro being from Brighton, with very limited professional clubs locally. Much easier if you’re from London / Manchester area for example. After being released I played 5 games for a conference south club before moving to a Sussex based team in the Isthmian Prem, where I played 4 seasons. Have gradually lost/hope interest since being in full time work and having kids and bounced down the leagues. Currently play in the County Prem in my late twenties, mainly just to keep fit and for the social aspect. Have earned a decent side wage from football which I realise I’m very lucky to have done.

The best team I have played against is Celtic U23’s whilst on pre season in Austria. It was about 40 degrees and we barely touched the ball in the first half, they were so technically good. I remember thinking at half time anything under 7-0 would be a result. We played much better second half but still lost 3-1.

Yes, well it won't be me either. Worthing League division one, and Sussex Sunday League division 10 or 12 - whichever it was I would like to point out that it wasn't the bottom one, I think there were two below us.

My biggest footballing achievement was playing in REMF 1.
