At last!, here's a thread close to my own heart, (or stomach), I do enjoy a good pie. I enjoy them all really, but Chicken, Gammon, & Leek, is a particular favourite at the moment.
As to weathar Sea Pie, (Fish Pie presumably), Shephards Pie, or Cottage Pie, are actually 'pies', is open to question, as they are topped by mashed potato, and not pastry, which is essential in my book.

how on earth do you concoct a list of pies that includes the odd "sea pie" and the joke "balckbird pie", yet missing the basic, common, Steak Pie?

So many derivations to the (admittedly wonderful) Steak Pie though. Plain Steak, Steak & Kidney, Steak & Ale, Steak & Mushroom, the list goes on. Couldn't possibly list them all I guess. Game Pie is another one that could have been included too.
