I think the club will see it differently to the consensus here.

He didn't feature yesterday, presumably because the deal is close to completion, closer than it was at the weekend.

I think they club will conclude it's unreasonable on the lad to pull the transfer and that we need to be seen to be doing the right thing by players in this situation. Gilmour has conducted himself impeccably in this matter and I think that will sway the club to allow the move through

Hmm, not sure about that. The club will do what's best for the club.

I’m not convinced his omission yesterday is a sign. No player from the weekend played so it could well be that he is being rested.

But I tend to agree that MOR injury is unlikely to affect WBG’s move. It will be whether or not he wants it and whether or not Napoli pay what is expected.

Personally, I hope he stays as I really like him. But, as you say, he has handled him superbly if he is off.

The part that most posts seem to be missing is squad places. Unless O'Riley is out to January, where do you find a spot in the 25 if originally he wasn't going to be in there? Presumably keeping him means letting someone else go who would have been in the 25.

He didn't feature yesterday, because none of the starting XI from Saturday featured yesterday.

Why? We've only got 20* that need to be listed (assuming that Rushworth (loan), Moder (sale) and Dahoud aren't named in the squad)

* Not counting Weir, Peupion and Offiah, who probably won't be in the squad.

Was just about to make the same point.

That current 20 man squad also includes Lamptey and Igor, one or both could leave depending on if we think we have enough full back cover/sign another centre back.

Absolutely space for Gilmour if we keep him without anyone needing to drop out of the named squad.

It was interesting that Barber verbally confirmed the bid from Napoli on TalkSport. The club do not normally discuss such things so openly.....I presume it was to generate competing offers i.e. he's surplus to requirements. No counter offers have emerged though.

He's great, I love him and don't want him to go, but he's never going to generate much interest in the market .
Nice tidy player, with little to no goal involvements.

He is likely to always be losing his place to midfielders, with a bit extra physically, or in the final third.

He was also there yesterday. Watched the game in his Albion gear from the bench as did Joao Pedro. Presumably meant that if needed, he was available for selection.

Absolutely agree with your post.

Every time I open this thread I am hoping it’s not to see a bid has been accepted.

If he really wants to go because he has been told he is only going to be a bench warmer, I get it and think that he is good enough to be playing parts in most games.

I will be sad if we lose him but if he wants out to get more game time, I wish him well.

My mate did send me a screen shot earlier of a flight landing this afternoon at Farnborough from Naples. I think he was just trying to wind me up but I was still a bit worried 🤣

Which interview on TS did PB confirm a bid from Napoli?
The only one I’ve heard recently was on the JW/SJ show

99% certain it was the one he did from Japan.

I've considered the deal unlikely from day one and put it in the "absolutely not happening" category once Billy started against United.

The deal is as dead as the idea that Hurzeler doesn't think Billy is good enough.
