Felt it was his best game for us.
Was it his farewell performance? No idea but he has (reportedly) said he fancies Naples so we will see.
I honestly can’t see him being more than a rotational player given the talent we are bringing in
If wieffer or O'Riley are injured surely he would start ?

To be fair to RDZ he didn't get a preseason to work on anything so he had to impose his style on the fly. Would we have amassed 62 points. If he'd maintained Potter's tactics and slowly transitioned? Impossible to say but probably not.

In the end we were 9 points off top 4.

The main thing stopping us getting top 4 that season was abysmal officiating. It was our best ever season, but the officials robbed us and we should've been higher.

I thought it was Napoli who were interested in him...

Is it? In what way? Tell me what Gilmour did that was so much better than Milner? I would recommend watching the game again and looking at the stats cos I think you’ll find that as tends to happen on here because he looks busy, Gilmour’s performance and influence has been over hyped.

I know some are not interested in stats but as a point of interest, Who Scored had them level rated, Sofa Score had Milner ahead of Gilmour.

If you want to look at the stats - Gilmour won the ball back with 3/3 tackles. For a player much derided for his poor defensive work he did that side of the game very well yesterday.

And if we’re looking at the stats app, FotMob had Gilmour score higher than Milner yesterday too.

Gilmour had his usual ‘busy’ game which you seemingly don’t rate, but it was his defensive work that marked him out as one of our top performers yesterday.

3 tackles won in midfield during a match is hardly match defining

Boils my piss, this self aggrandising bollocks. "Underrated by a lot of Brighton fans" = "I know better than you"
Based on his 'rumoured' value and possible sale price (below £20m?), it would appear that there's something missing in his locker that makes him underrated by the overall football establishment.
Whether that is a bias because of his size, or because of his lack of assists and goals, who knows?

But if Wee Billy was 5'10" and scored 8 goals a season and was South American he would probably be worth £50m+.

I think Brighton fans rate him higher than other football watchers because we've seen how good he can be on a regular basis.
But in all likelihood he could well struggle to get in the Albion starting XI ahead of O'Riley, Weiffer, Baleba, Milner on a regular basis, and it looks like we also have Diego Gomez joining in January.
However I'm sure the club and FH would like to keep him in the squad to rotate when necessary.

The summer transfer deadline is approaching far too fast to make a rushed decision. It would be good if he stayed until January and then both the club and Billy would know how often he is likely to be used.

A regular start in Napoli must sound very attractive to him, but who is to say he won't be warming the bench there?

Hang on in there Billy, Brighton is the place to be.
For now at least.

Now I’m not an expert, but… if an £18m deal is verbally done between the Two clubs, it would be absolute madness on the clubs (and players) behalf to play him yesterday.

I just don’t see that making sense. If indeed it was true, WBG would have been nowhere near the squad let alone starting.

But that wasn’t my point- my point was that he did the defensive side of the game well yesterday, along with his busy normal self of picking up the ball and playing through the lines.
You’re right though he did misplace some passes - but this is a player that had no preseason games and was thrown into a midfield 2 with James Milner against Man Utd. Give the guy a break.

THIS.

Almost out the door, starting and playing 89 minutes yesterday ?

Unusual ???

It would reinforce that the club are allowing the move for the player’s benefit rather than the club’s. Had he got injured yesterday and the move was aborted, that wouldn’t have been a concern for us, hence he played.

For Billy, he needs to show he’s a first XI footballer every minute he plays, so suited us to use him yesterday.

If Wieffer was out (injured or rested) Billy could play alongside O'Riley, who I think will be used as more of an attacking centre mid. I just think letting Billy go this cheap is a bit daft right now, when I guess even FH doesn't know how well everyone will adapt to the PL and his style.

If the new players come in and make the shirts their own, and there's no room for Billy, then let him go in January. But there's every chance we could wish Billy was still here, so letting him go cheap feels to me like a mistake.
