Translation:

Napoli are following Billy Gilmour, Brighton's Scottish midfielder, with interest.

For the English club he is a very important player and at the moment they are not open to listening to offers for him.

Billy Gilmour has a contract expiring in 2026.

When will Chelsea make an offer for BG and how much silly quid will they pay?

Nah. ADL is too cheap/sensible to pay Tony what we'd want.

Looking forward to see him signing a new contract before the summer is over.

If Hürzeler is going to insist that his non-scoring deep lying playmaker switches to centre back out of possession, Wee Billy is missing about a foot in height along with a dominating aerial ability.

I don’t want him to go but Hürzelers midfielders at St Pauli were either bagging up on goals and assists or dropping back into central defence. That’s just not Billy’s game. This might be a case of him horses for course. Billy could be the wrong fit for Hürzeler.

why are we upset that other clubs are "interested" in our players. this hardly ever means we sell them and the club have said - in this story at least - that we're not interested in selling him.

So this is good news right. Better to have players who other clubs rate. ?
Sorry to set the alarm bells ringing in Chailey Towers so early on a Saturday morning, hope they didn't wake you up :lolol:

Let’s kick this BS straight into the long grass. 👆🏻

If they really want him, they’ll pay what Tony desires.

These are their record fees.

I think we’d take the same amount they paid for Buongiorno earlier this window IF Hürzeler informs the recruitment team that Billy is not likely to get much game time.

Thank you, that list is showing exactly how unlikely it is they would pay the £50-60m it would take to buy a young key midfielder from a mid-table PL club.

Billy Gilmour is many things.

A £50-60m player isn't one of them.

People and clubs change. Wasn't Brighton almost out of EFL?

I'm not saying I'd drive him to Napoli myself - it's a bloody long way after all - but, if I had my pilot's licence and there was a whip round to cover aviation fuel, I'd fly him down to Italy, and enjoy a pizza before coming home.

But is BG really a deep lying playmaker though or did he just play there for us as we had no-one else? Horses can and do have more than one course.

His value to Hürzeler is the key.

When selling a player such as Caicedo is going to probably cost you your top six finish, you sit on him until a bid comes in that will renumerate the loss of European football and top six prize money etc.

When a manager comes in to our club and with tactics that signal that if central midfielders aren’t false central defenders or scoring and assisting lots of goals, the midfielders who don’t have those attributes lose their value to us pretty quickly.

We are a buying AND selling club. We WILL sell players on for great value to the buying team in order to fund other acquisitions IF the manager does not want to keep them and they are not going to compete directly against us. The Gyökeres and Østigård transfers are clear evidence of that.

If Hürzeler wants Wee Billy. He stays. End of. If he doesn’t, he leaves to go abroad for well below £40m.

In terms of a more attacking role, when he gets into an advanced position for us, Scotchland or Chelsea, has he ever got an assist or looked like he’d score? You could be right but I can’t think of the evidence supporting a move to a more attacking role.

Interesting. Putting aside the fact I don’t particularly rate him, I also don’t see a place for him in our team now with how FH likes to set up. If we could get north of £25m for him I’d snap their hand off.

£50m in from him and Undav to spend on an upgrade to our team would be immense business.

Would be a great opportunity for him over there too.

As has been proved before, this is not the best way of conducting transfer business.
