Like the sound of this, hoping that he rates Billy and he’s staying then!!
I'm not so re-assured -
"Billy Gilmour knows how I see him and how my plans are with him. In the end he knows what he has with this club, with his teammates, I think he feels comfortable.
"Here he can develop, he's a great player and he's developed well here already. We will see what happens but I'm really glad he's back on the pitch today
."

Very diplomatic, methinks.

Exactly.

Gilmour fans should be careful about getting their hopes up.

Surely same thing goes for "sell Gilmour"-fans eh? Especially those who have been 100% confident in him leaving might want to reconsider it soon.

Time to give over on Gilmour. He’ll be a Napoli player by this time next week. Enough credible sources have backed this story up.

So true or Potter dare I say….
Potter’s tactics tend to fall apart in attacking areas the ball isn’t worked quick enough to get in behind and cause damage. Passing it around on the edge of the opponents box for hours on end was getting us nowhere.
Chelsea went exactly the same way when he was in charge low scoring and drawing games they should have been winning.

Fair challenge.
I was thinking of our defensive frailties and gung-ho approach vs Roma.

Edit - thanks for spotting @Flounce

Gilmour is a good squad player, but there are elements of his game that aren’t quite there, tackling for one. If he went to Italy he’d be fantastic, more time etc…

I feel we’re going for more strength this year, and over the years we have looked light (physically) in comparison to some other teams, thinking about the Villa’s and Newcastle’s.

Re Wieffer, he’s coming back from a long injury in a far tougher league, you have to give him a chance. He was great vs Villarreal, but that was a friendly. Gilmour, MacAllister and Bissouma started slowly if i recall.

Yes good points on Gilmour, he has weaknesses in his game that don’t get discussed much because he’s been something of a fans favourite. I’m just wondering if there is still a role for his strengths - until we get the centre mid partnership performing as well as, say, our wide player options are, I would keep him. If we get that successfully sorted, by all means punt him out to La dolce vita.

For me against Villarreal Wieffer also looked a little slow and immobile. Maybe that’s just his style and he can still be effective. If so, at least he needs to cut out the bad technical errors in possession he showed yesterday. Let’s see

Wieffer didn't play any games in Japan. Not sure he even went due to injury. Maybe he is working his way back to fitness ?

There was a role yesterday. Keeping possession when we had a 2-0 lead. He did it very well for 10mins or so.

I think if he sets up a goal, gets an assist and makes something like the 2nd highest interceptions and pass completions in the game he will do ok.

Napoli currently losing 2.0 to Hellas Verona so expect an increased bid imminently.
I can't see them paying what he's worth in this market even with 2 years left?

Genuinely think we should be trying to keep him, maybe we are behind the scenes; get a contract extension infront of him.

It'll cost us more to convince Celtic on O'Riley with 3 years left on his contract. We're too light in CM with the sales and loans out already plus highly likely Milner will have a spell out injured.

Whooo hoo, this is almost like a new signing to this WBG fan, if true -from today’s Argus:

Billy Gilmour, who went on as sub on Saturday, is expected to remain with Albion, despite strong interest from Napoli.

I’d love him to stay here but only if he is really in Hűrzeler’s plans and we are really going to use him. Most of the talk has been about how he doesn’t fit in.

A 10min sub at the end of games would be a waste of a season for him and would probably just end up with an unhappy player.
