Nope - he was in the Hastings youth ranks at the time when he was 'poached'. Albion paid token compensation and the rest is history. John Gregory said if Dick Knight saw Barry run bollock naked past him on The Palace Pier he wouldn't recognise him. Villa paid up though etc.

Needing 3 points from 3 games to win The Championship but getting absolute slaughtered after securing promotion and stumbling through the last few games collectively hung over. Then having a massive parade and party anyway.

Two of our managers having the same name, Peter Taylor.
We'll never match the other Albion on that type of oddity:

A CEO was literally chased out of the directors box and away from the stadium by supporters.

The players crowd surfed on supporters on a train journey after a very important win. In the modern era where player security is normally excessive.

The first club to have support from across from countless domestic and European clubs at a home game, in a bid for survival.

I reckon we're the only top flight club who 15 years ago had a portocabin with a couple of bottles of Fosters bobbing around in a plasterer's bucket as corporate hospitality.
Bournemouth still do, don't they ?

At the start of 2009 they were 23rd in the 4th division. And only by virtue of Luton Town having had a points deduction.

Nope - he was in the Hastings youth ranks at the time when he was 'poached'. Albion paid token compensation and the rest is history. John Gregory said Dick Knight wouldn't recognise Gareth Barry if he stood on Brighton beach in an Albion shirt with a ball tucked under his arm and a seagull on his head.
We also have Brian Horton to thank for getting the money out of the "pennypinching hypocrites": https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sp...ws/aston-villa-gareth-barry-transfer-23190863
