Why is/was the stadium half empty for much of the first set? Still plenty of seats going spare.

Because it was due to be played in the main court, but due to the fact that there is a tropical storm coming, they wanted to try and get it finished before it hit. So most people were still watching the 1st semi.

This match is not on the right court, I think they played it now rather than wait for the other semi to finish due to Hurricane Hanna's arrival later. Hence all the people there are ground ticket holders who were not actually expecting to see a game. It should start to fill up now the other match has finished
