Lost 4kg since Christmas. Gym 3 times a week and cycling to work. Still got a long way to go to reach my goal but it's now a part of my lifestyle and I'm enjoying it!

The ironic thing is, if you are feeling hungry then you are not doing it in the most efficient way.

When losing weight you should NEVER feel hungry. Basically (without this being a patronising lecture) when you are hungry and eat something, your body will CLING onto the first sign of fat molecules that enter your system in a survival-mode instinct.

You want to be eating every 2.5-3 hours. Even if you think "I'm not really feeling like I want to eat now" EAT. Just something. It will keep your metabolism working a FULL efficiency. It means, after time, every time you eat something your body will IMMEDIATELY begin converting it.

Also stick to low GI foods. Don't live on the myth that you need to cut out carbs. Carbs are vital to us. But make sure you eat the right ones. Low GI foods are foods which make our blood sugar levels rise much slower when consumed. Diabetics will aim for low GI foods for obvious reasons. Also try eat high protein food with these low GI foods.

Some ideas for good foods.
Porridge oats.
Wholemeal bread.
Wholewwheat Pasta
Brown Rice

Peanut Butter
Cottage cheese (lovely as a yoghurt alternative with honey)
Tuna, Chicken Breast, Turkey Breast, Egg whites etc etc.

Sorry for the lecture!

I lost three stone last year after peaking at 16st in January. A combination of cutting out crap from my diet and running loads helped me achieve it. Also, towards the end of the year I started the Intermittent Fasting/5-2 diet which, not only helps you lose weight, but also reduces the risk of dementia, prostate cancer and all sorts of other nasties. You have to have massive willpower to not eat for 24 hours, but for me it is now a way of life.

In addition, Mrs B has lost nearly three stone since October by cutting back on food intake and walking about 25 miles a week.

I am convinced that no diets really work in the long run, and that is why so many of them exist. The only foolproof way to lose weight healthily and ensure it stays off is to eat less, move more.

Good luck.

i turned the whole thing in to a game, creating a couple of Excel spread sheets that monitored calories intake and weight loss and gain. It's always worked, and for statto's can be addictive ! I'm more than happy to send copies for anyone who might think this sort of approach might help them.

All good advice. Cutting out bread and pasta and doing some decent exercise goes a long way. I'd add sweet potatoes to that list.

It is possible to totally cut out carbs and just use fat as your energy source, but I probably wouldn't recommend it.

Oh yes. They're my favourite.

That's the thing. I just put on a little bit of uni weight so just tried to be a bit healthier and went onto these sorts of foods. Now I have absolutely no reason to lose weight but I choose to eat these foods because they are LUSH.

Sweet potato homemade wedges are the bees.

Yes, add me to the list.

Lost 1 and three quarter stone since Christmas ie. 18 stone and feeling fat and bloated to this morning, 16 st 6 lbs. my goal is 16 st by Easter when we go away.

I am doing it by limiting myself to 2000 calories and exercise. I average 1700 a day and when. I exercise I average 450 calories burn, 4 times a week. Gone down 3 inches around my waist and dropped two trouser size in Levi jeans, from 40 ins to 36 ins.

I just feel so much better ...and I can get into my albion shirts I haven't worn for years.

Some good advice there Mejona, but if you don't want to get too bogged down in what's GI and what isn't calorie counting is quite an easy alternative. My app told me to achieve my goal weight in 5 weeks, I'd need to eat at most 1,500 cals per day. I found this really easy to stick too and the weight has come off. A stone in 5 weeks feels great and it didn't feel difficult. The one things I'd add to what you've put is to flag exercise. Don't rely totally on diet, try and do an hour of cycling a day - even if it's on an exercise bike in the comfort of your own home. It'll make a massive difference to your personal fitness and, as you mentioned, it'll keep the metabolism working efficiently.

You are all to be applauded, not only for your efforts, but for openly supporting one another. Like all old gits, I have piled the pounds on over the years and since Christmas decided to do something about it. In the process I have even stopped the evil vice of smoking, which makes things a challenge to say the least. However, through sensible eating, (I too use the FitnessPal app), upping the exercise, I am slowly shedding the pounds and feel a lot better because of it. There is no easy fix, but as long as you accept that and stay focused you can achieve your goal. Good luck

Plateau's are a mare. I hit them about 3 times during my time (lost 4 stone). The key is psychology. If you are in for the long haul now you needn't worry, it's a blip. As a rule I would have a binge this weekend if i were you and do no exercise. THEN, have four thin days from Monday. Drink plenty of water. It should kick start your metabolism. Oh, and don't get back on the scales till next Friday. Even if you are still at the same weight your metabolism will have changed.
