The good news is that they are very cheap nowadays , the bad news is the getting hammered for replacement inks.

Inks tend to be cheaper on Epsons ...

I've got the Canon, top printer and cheap ink. Generally the less you pay for printer, the more you pay for ink (most times cheaper to buy a new printer than ink)

I had a HP printer and it was very tempremental... I literally threw it in the tip (quite rewarding watching it splatter) and bought a Lexmark printer +scanner and it's been brill !

If you're printer gave you seven years that's pretty good going. I'd stick with Canon.

Cheers guys.

Think I might well order the canon. Was tempted by the Epson £40 jobbie quoted above but like the fact that the slightly dearer ones have wifi so the other half can print from her laptop as well (hopefully - as long as I can work out how to set it up!). The canon seems fairly good for £90 odd

I use Epsons for the simple reason their cartridges are cheaper. Never buy a Lexmark as they may be cheap to buy but their cartridges are very costly.

Buy a second hand Epson photo printer from 10 years ago (before the manufacturers started inserting digital chips in the cartridges). Make sure it prints well. Both the machine (approx £20) and replacement cartridges (£2.50 each) will be dirt cheap.
