I have ringfenced beer and petrol as costs that should not be capped because without it I cannot work. I worked out I can spend only £18 a month on beers as Tesco and Asda both have a offers at different times to each other which can be included in a monthly food bill of £60.

you can't work without beer?

I personally worked out I was spending over £500 on social activities and gambling in the FIRST WEEKEND from payday.

So a visit to the CAB and GA and I decided to work out a plan and own personal cutback

Even small snacks in my local tescos totaled to £60 every four weeks.

So from now on I shall only limit my spending to just The Sun newspaper on a daily basis. I have ringfenced beer and petrol as costs that should not be capped because without it I cannot work. I worked out I can spend only £18 a month on beers as Tesco and Asda both have a offers at different times to each other which can be included in a monthly food bill of £60.

I have now agreed a repayment sum on all my debts of £155 every four weeks alongside my rent of £163. I also have set aside £80 to go towards maintaining my car. And with all this included I have managed to stay within my target of £650 by spending £618. Which totals a 43% cut in my own personal spend.

I will still have money to go spare for social activities, for this month here I have £30 and the spare money can quickly go towards lump repayments to bring down the debt faster

I stress however, it will be tough for all of us
I also hope to have another job if I can get offered one, to maximize the income even more

It's called being a grown up. Well done for doing it though.

I think the next few months/years are going to be very hard on some people with all money being spent on essentials such as food, utilities, mortgage etc. I think that crowds as things such as football are already falling in many places and will fall further still as people are unable to afford match tickets and that in turn will have a knock on effect in the local economy which will in turn mean more job losses as local pubs/newsagenst etc close, I am afraid I am in the doom and gloom brigade as the 500,000 job losses the government are about to announce will mean an increase to unemployment benfit, housing benefit which I thought they were aiming to reduce.

At the same time less people will be able to afford to go to University so more will sign on the dole meaning more in unemployment benefit and more housing benefit.

Whilst this is going on the bankers will continue to get £7b in bonuses and the rich will hardly be effected, so the great divide will just get bigger and bigger.

As unemployment rises, crime will rise but police numbers will decrease. As the terrorist threat increases the police and armed forces numbers will decrease.

Local companies that do work with any local authoritiy, health service etc will find they have no money to spend so will end up going out of business.

Its all bonkers...........yes we need cuts but not like this...........make the banks state owned and stop paying out our money used to prop up banks like the RBS etc in bonuses. They should be forced to repay all government subsidies before any bonuses paid.

Yes stop benefit cheats, dont pay for people to sit on the dole for year after year after year, but they need jobs to go to.

Thank **** Brighton are doing well and there is something to be chearful about!

Two further points here. we now have a Tesco quickstore in my high street, and I find after years of making up my own sarnies I am now buying short-dated reduced Tesco's stuff. They are cheap and I must admit the Chicken and Chorizo I had last week for £1.29 was very tasty.

Second and most important job, never never NEVER just take "another job" just because it pays more money. If you aren't happy doing it and only stomach it just for the pay-cheque every month or whatever, you'll be more miserable than you are now.

Believe me, I've been there....

I suspect you are right. You probably ARE right.

But think of the golden opportunities that arise:

Youth Opportunities Programmes. They could be called YOPS.

Work Introduction Courses. WICS.

Work Experience on Employers Premises. WEEPS.

Further Education Colleges can bring their worst portable huts back into use as hundreds of people per week are taught interview techniques for the interviews they'll never get, plan a CV that nobody will read, and scour the local rags' sits vac column and ponder which of the two jobs on offer they should go for.How to write that letter of application that will be binned, unopened, unanswered.

Think of the next General Election.

Think carefully where you put that cross.

Since being made redundant I have managed to slash my outgoings by 70% .Its amazing what you can do without but embarassing when I look at the way I threw my money around when times were good. I have learnt a harsh lesson but hopefully something will come along soon ........

Last year was very tough for me and the missus, I took voluntary redundancy when we closed an office and she took lost two jobs back to back as companies closed. We were forced to cut back everything and even had to pay a couple of months mortgage on a credit card.

This year we are both in better, stable jobs. I am earning a fair bit less than before but it is regular and growing.

I learnt to budget and realised how much I was wasting a month, especially on beer. We renegotiated the Sky package (didn’t get rid as staying in more), stayed in school nights, no comedy clubs etc

Now I have a couple more sheckles I have been cracking on with the credit card debt, paid for a weekend away and have started to enjoy life again, but at a lower level. I am saving for next years holiday (first foreign in 3 years) so that wont be shock when the bills come in.

Also the good news is the lack of money means I don’t have to get her a ring and embark on all the marriage nonsense!!!

This means you will spend £10.50 a week on food. You will starve and your problems will be over.
