My MP

As I have a Labour MP in Huddersfield Barry Sheerman I wrote to him about the stadium bid at Falmer.
Part of the reasoning is to show that Brighton & Hove Albion are not a provincial club.

I had an email back saying that he would contact me when he had had an answer from John Prescott's dept.

Today I have had a letter from the House of Commons.
It says the Inspector's report has been received for consideration by the First Secretary of State. A decision has yet to be made. As you may appreciate for reasonss of procedural propriety, I am unable to discuss the details of the case. Your constituent may wish to know that representations received after the close of the public inquiry will be taken into account by the First Secretary of State so far as they are relevant in making his decision.

A copy of the Frist Secretary of State's decision letter, once issued, will be sent to you'

This is signed by Keith Hill (John Prescotts assistant)

Basically this is saying that all this campaigning is being taken into account and JP is sticking to the letter of the law so no-one can call in a judicial inquiry when he gives his answer. I find this very positive and I am also impressed by my local Labour MP Barry Sheerman

Actually, a judicial inquiry could be called in, but if the decision has been arrived at in the correct way it will not be overturned

This response from Keith Hill is entirely consistent with the answer he has given to a Parliamentary Question by Norman Baker:-

From Hansard:-

QUESTIONS TO THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER 26 Feb 2004

Brighton and Hove Local Plan

Norman Baker:
To ask the Deputy Prime Minister

(1) whether the report of the planning inspector into the Brighton and Hove Local Plan will constitute a material consideration in respect of his determination of the called-in application proposing a football stadium at Falmer; [156368]

(2) what weight he intends to attach to representations he receives between the closing of the public inquiry into the proposal for a football stadium at Falmer and his decision on the report of the inspector handling that inquiry. [156369]

Keith Hill: The Inspector's report into the applications made by Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club is currently with my right hon. Friend the Deputy Prime Minister for decision. For reasons of procedural propriety the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister is unable to discuss the details of the case.

The decisions will be made on the basis of all the relevant available evidence. Representations received after the close of the public inquiry will be taken into account as far as they are relevant. In general terms the weight to be given to a material consideration will be considered as part of the decision process. It will be clear from the decision letter when issued what matters have been taken into account and the weight that has been attached to any particular matter.
