Not a rant. Hopefully an indicator of what can be done to others who might be struggling.

And you have every right to feel proud of yourself, says someone who is fortunate enough never to have had such problems….. but is well aware that there but for the Grace of God go I.

Excellent news. I’m happy for you that life is now on the up for you. A brilliant testimony for seeking help if needed. We all deserve to feel some happiness and security in life.

Great to hear you are on the up & heading in the right direction....a big thumbs up from me. Its a horrible place to be when you feel that nothing is worth it anymore, so well done.
Especially poignant reading this after seeing dozens of Police & Coastguard etc at Marine Gate last night trying to coax someone away from the edge of the cliffs.
I really hope they were brought back to safety, and can find the help they need to go on the same journey you have, to get better.

Well done Washie - you're right to be proud, for getting yourself back on track AND for posting here, which could help unknown numbers of others.

Now I feel a bit guilty for having you on "ignore" (match threads can be stressful at the best of times!) - will set that right! :lolol::thumbsup:

It's funny to think that reading a story like that from someone I've likely never met and wouldn't spot in the street can bring such a sense of positivity and hope to so many. Delighted to hear things on the upward curve, Washie, and long may it continue.

So a few of you may recognise my username through some rather negative posting (and some positive). I have genuinely been in one of the worst places i have ever been in terms of my mental health. I barely had any energy to do anything, my weight ballooned and i cut myself off from my friends and family. I had no progression path and genuinely believed that what i had is all i will aspire to in life. That getting a better job was impossible and at some point i would be fired from my job. I genuinely believed i would become homeless and die alone. That the entire world was out to get me. I didn't even enjoy the things that used to bring me joy. I even started lashing out at the people closest to me.

So I got help

After taking SSRIs and speaking to a therapist, my life has started to really turn around. I am starting a new job soon with much better progression chances and better pay, i'm going to the gym 3 times a week to start with until my body gets used to it. I have started cooking my own meals rather than just ordering in or just buying crap. I also am now starting (slowly) to talk to my family more and even started making new friends. Life now seems to finally be worth living again.

Why am I telling you this? Well first of all i'm ****ing proud of myself that i've even come this far. I'm also posting this to maybe help others who are going through a difficult time themselves. Show people that there can be a light in the darkness, and that even though it is very difficult, life can get better.

I'm sorry for the rant, just wanted to get it off my chest.

Thanks
Washie

Washie, you've got 52 thumbs up and counting.

I don't know about you, but I find that tremendously moving and uplifting.

Take all that goodwill with you, as you get on with the rest of your life.

No need to apologize for a rant. It wasn’t a rant.

Well done for getting the help and acting on it. You should be proud.

Good luck . I think the most important aspect of your story is you recognised something needed to change and you went out and sort help. Hope you continue on your upward trajectory.

Well done Washie, so pleased for you.

A friend of mine recently was recently in a bad way, not from any trauma, but (according to the NHS psychiatrist) it must be "in their nature" to be prone to depression. Talking therapies alone made little inroads.

Being prescribed SSRI's was THE game-changer, the dull cloud over their life has lifted. They can now truly live a life.

You should be very proud of where you are now.

It seems to me that many times people can experience mental health issues because of events and circumstances which are entirely beyond their control. Just a run of very bad luck if you like, something which could happen to any one of us.

Sometimes the world can be a very unfair place and people having problems can feel ashamed almost as if they brought it upon themselves, they should never ever feel that way - they have done nothing to deserve those problems.

Good luck with the future

I hope you are heartened by the continuing NSC positivity about your very honest and open post Washie. We are ALL vulnerable at times and sharing your experience will be beneficial to others here.

As members of an online community most of us will have moments when we post something we regret so I wouldn’t worry about any other responses you’ve given. Comments such as those shouldn’t be taken seriously by people anyway. Coming on NSC is a fun activity for me as a lot of it is about our beloved Albion but there’s much more besides to be part of. I like the human story posts such as yours as it helps give some balance and proportion to some of the stuff people can get very uptight about.

As others have said you will have ups and downs but I’m glad you’re feeling more positive at the moment. Stay strong

Thank you very much everyone. It actually means a lot to see so many likes and so many comments wishing me well. Genuinely feel like life is on the up and now waiting to start at my new job. I also apologise if i have upset people with my posts before on match day threads, i can sometimes still get negative and post on there and other threads. if it does get a bit too much, please do tell me as sometimes it can affect others and i'm sorry for that.

Also happy to see others with their own stories and glad they managed top get where they wanted to be.

Well done Washie.

First thing is admitting there is an issue and asking for help :)

I have had a rough 2 years and suffered from bad anxiety and panic attacks. Really hit rock bottom and wondered how I could do anything moving forwards, all the things I used to find easy became terrifying and my World got smaller and smaller.

Meditation, exercise and being in nature massively helped but also take beta blockers to keep a lid on it as well presently.

Admitting you have a problem isn't a weakness its a strength! So many people go through life not seeking help and suffering badly, Hopefully talking about it helps others to admit there problems and seek help.

Spot on for both of these.... comments

I would add the third bit - talking about it to others , reduces the stigma for you and those that also have issues and helps them open up and makes it easier for those who have spotted the' issue' in you but don't know how to deal with it. Winners all round really.
